Congratulations to Iowa Colony HS’s Ashtyn Lewis for taking home the gold in the girls 400m, Manvel HS’s Sammy Haynes for placing 1st in the 100m, and the gold medal winning Shadow Creek HS’s 4x400m girls relay team of Madyson Thurmond, Nia Parks, Tiffany Mugubi, and Mackenzie Collins. Big night for Alvin ISD! Tonight, during our annual Employee Recognition Ceremony, we named our Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year! Congratulations to E.C. Congratulations to Pomona Elementary's new principal, Melissa Compton! Ms. Compton was named by the board at tonight's meeting!

Tonight, five new assistant principals were approved by the board! Their campuses are TBD but they will do great wherever they go! Congratulations to Alana Adame, Justine Blackwell, Jacob Chavarria, Nallely Hernandez, and Jacqueline Butteris!

Alvin ISD is proud to honor one of its long-serving bus drivers, Peggy Worrell, who has been driving an Alvin ISD school bus for 40 years. Ms. Worrell has been named Transportation Employee of the Year in recognition of her dedication and service to the district. Ms. Worrell began her career as a bus driver for Alvin ISD in 1981 and has been transporting students to and from school ever since. She has become a beloved member of the district's transportation team. "Peggy is an inspiration to all of us," said Greg Bingham, Alvin ISD’s Director of Transportation. "Her unwavering dedication to our students and her colleagues is remarkable, and we are proud to honor her as our Transportation Employee of the Year." Ms. Worrell drives a special education bus and her commitment to her job is evident in the way she interacts with her students. She greets each one with a smile and goes out of her way to make their journey to school a positive experience. "I love my job and I love the students," said Worrell. "I feel blessed to be able to do what I do every day." Ms. Worrell will be recognized at the Alvin ISD Employee Recognition Ceremony held on May 11.

Thank you to the Pearland Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring the Brazoria County Civics Bee. Out of 70 submitted essays from across Brazoria County, the top 20 finalist were from Alvin ISD. Congratulations to everyone including the top 3 winners, Nathan Lackey, Caleb Wesley, Meaghan Mooney.

What a day! Alvin ISD administration & board members toured the brand-new Nichols-Mock Elementary, which is set to open this summer. We're excited to announce that the new mascot will be the Voyagers! We can't wait to welcome our students next year and watch them thrive in this amazing learning environment.

This morning, Alvin ISD administrators and board members had the privilege of touring the renovated Harby Jr. High, set to open this summer. This state-of-the-art building is equipped with the latest amenities to provide an exceptional learning experience for all Harby Jr. High students!

It’s May! That means Graduation Month! Alvin ISD and RISE Academy are thrilled to announce our Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the class of 2023. Drumroll please...Our Valedictorian is Charleston McKee and our Salutatorian is Rikki Roquemore. Congratulations to both of these exceptional students for their outstanding achievements! Last night, the Brazoria County Petrochemical Council (BCPC) held its 5th annual Career Signing Day event, where 12 CTE students from Alvin ISD received and accepted entry-level job offers. The BCPC Signing Day event aims to provide high school seniors with an opportunity to secure entry-level job offers in the petrochemical industry. The event is held in partnership with Brazosport College and several local employers who are committed to supporting the county's youth in their transition to post-secondary education and the workforce. The 12 Alvin ISD students who secured job offers represent various career pathways, including welding, construction, manufacturing, and automotive.
