Just before Spring Break, Manvel High School's Student Council and National Honor Society partnered with HEB to bring new life to campus by planting 31 trees around the building.
MHS' Student Council applied for the HEB Trees for Texans grant last school year and the trees were officially delivered March 14. Together with NHS members, the students planted the more than two dozen trees around Manvel's campus, including along the main entrance parking area.
HEB's Trees for Texans programs aims to enrich the places we call home by planting trees that contribute to healthier environments. Schools are selected based on their distance from a new HEB store and ranked by the average surface temperature (using satellite thermal data) surrounding the school. The “hottest” schools are then paired with socioeconomic data and canopy cover to select the which will benefit most from a planting project.
