Class Overview:

Dance 1-3 courses are designed to provide students with the fundamental skills of dance and allow for the growth of each dancer through the development of movement. This is achieved through the study of different styles of dance, terminology, history, choreography, and performance through written and physical participation. Students may receive Fine Arts, PE and/or elective credit dependent on their individual needs towards graduation. My hope is that each student will appreciate the art of dance and explore all of its qualities. This will happen within an atmosphere where students will learn, observe, create, perform and gain self confidence.

Course Topics:

• Fall: Fitness & Nutrition, Muscles & Bones, Ballet, Lyrical,  Jazz, Performance

• Spring: Tap, Cultural/Folk/Social Dance, Musical Theater, Hip Hop, Dance Team, Performance, Choreography

Supplies & Fees:

All dancers will be required to purchase specific dance attire through their campus that will be used for class and performances. Female dancers must provide their own solid black, ankle length, fitted stretch leggings. The leggings cannot have additional colors, designs, prints, sheerness, lattice, texture or inserts. They must be dense/opaque (not see through).  Male dancers may wear any solid black pants that allow full range of motion for movement.  T-shirt $20 + Shoes $20 = Fees minimum of $40.

Required Performances:

All students enrolled in dance class must participate in performances. These performances are not optional, but required. The performances fulfill the requirements established by the state of Texas listed in the dance TEKS. All performances will count as a TEST grade. 

• Dance Dimensions - District Show: November 21, 2024 6:00 pm & 7:30pm Performance at Alvin High School that showcases the Eastside dance programs

• Falcon Flight Dance Show- Spring Show : April TBA

• Alvin HS Jacketeers Spring Show: May 2nd @7:00pm & May 3rd 2:00 pm  Dance 2 & 3 students only required to perform on of these days.
