What is AcaDec?

"The United States Academic Decathlon (USAD) is a program that provides high school students an opportunity to experience the challenges of rigorous academic competition through participation in team activities...
Based on a point system, the highest scoring team represents Texas at the national USAD competition. All members of the winning team receive scholarships. Texas provides $150,000 in scholarship money each year. Registration fees and the Texas Education Agency contribute to this scholarship fund. The Academic Decathlon is the only competition to award “C” student’s scholarships!"

The team will be made up of 9 individuals, plus 1-2 alternate members. Three students each will represent the following GPA groupings: Honors (3.8-4.00); Scholastic (3.2-3.79); Varsity (0.00-3.199).

How does the Competition Work?

Academic Decathlon® isn’t about mastering a single event, but ten different skills and disciplines. Every Academic Decathlon competition, whether it’s a local round or the national finals, will follow the same multidisciplinary format.

What You'll Do on Competition Day

You’ll deliver speeches, one on a topic of your choice and one on a topic you’ve never seen before.

You’ll write an essay demonstrating not just what you’ve learned but how powerfully you can argue an idea.

You’ll be interviewed by judges asking you thoughtful questions about your past experiences and your goals for the future.

You’ll take challenging exams in Art, Economics, Literature, Math, Music, Science, and Social Science.

And, at the exciting Super Quiz™, you and your teammates will take turns solving the most stimulating challenges of all from across every subject you’ve studied—while a live audience cheers you on.
