Welcome Cardinal Families!

I am Shantel Octave, your Assistant Principal for students with the last names beginning with A - L. I am so excited to join the Cardinal Family! I am looking forward to meeting each of you and making this the best year at Caffey Junior High.

I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in a small town near there named Edgard. I attended West St. John High School, where I graduated as the Class Valedictorian. I then attended Louisiana Tech University and earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. I also have a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University, and a Master's Endorsement in Educational Leadership from Western Government, and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans.

I have been married for 22 years to my wonderful husband, Shannon. We have two children, Shannon Jr. and Shayler, who both graduated from Shadow Creek High School.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, baking, and solving puzzles.  I am a published author; my novel "Face Everything and Rise" was published in July 2022. I am currently working on another novel, which I hope to finish before the end of the calendar year.

I believe in working in partnership with families to help each child reach their full potential. I believe that the only limits for children are those they put on themselves. Why limit yourself to only reach the moon when there are plenty of planets and galaxies beyond that.

I want to know each child that walks the Caffey Junior High campus and do what I can to help them reach their goals.

Welcome Cardinals!

I know that starting school can be stressful for children, as well as for parents. Please know that I will do my best to calm everyone’s fears and make Jackie Caffey Junior High a welcoming environment for all.

I am Mark McGlothlin, your Assistant Principal for students with the last names beginning with M - Z. I was born and raised in League City, TX. My degree is in Public Administration from University of North Texas!!! My Masters is in Education Management from UH Clear Lake.

I have been married for 15 years to a wonderful woman that I enjoy spending time with. My wife, Mandy, is the Advanced Academics Specialist at Shirley Brothers Elementary in Alvin ISD.

In my spare time, I enjoy sporting events and traveling.  My wife and I are the proud parents of two amazing children, Kate (9 years old), and Liam (6 years old). My wife and I joyfully adopted both and welcomed into our lives. Both Kate and Liam are happy, blessed, and one-of-a-kind.

My other "children" are our 4-year-old boxers named Max and Jude.

I am looking forward to getting to know your child and I am excited about what the school year holds for us. I believe a child’s family has an important role in making a child’s experience in school a successful one.
