Compulsory attendance at schools is required by state law. When your child is absent from school, he or she is missing out on valuable information that is being taught in class. If a student must be absent from class, he or she needs to bring a note from a parent the following day explaining the reason for the absence. In the event that the student in question experiences an excessive number of absences, these notes will be a valuable resource to prove that the reasons for the absences are justifiable. Students who arrive after school at 8:00 a.m. but before 10:00 a.m. will be counted tardy, not absent. Students arriving at school after 10:00 a.m. will be counted as absent for the day. HOWEVER, if your child arrives with a note from a doctor stating that his or her late arrival was due to medical care or treatment, then your child will only be counted as tardy, not absent, regardless of the time of day.  

The student tardy bell rings at 8:00 a.m. If your child arrives to class after the bell, then he or she is considered tardy. According to district policy, students who are repeatedly tardy to class will be referred to the office administrators. 

If your child is to go home a different way than usual, we prefer written notification from you, the parent. If you must call the office to relay this information, your phone call must be received before 2:15 p.m. The office can be a very busy place in the afternoon, so messages received after this time can be difficult to deliver. 

All adults who arrive at the office to pick-up a child will be required to show a valid form of picture identification. The adult should also be listed on the child's emergency form as an approved contact person by the child's parent.  

Campus visitors will be required to show a valid drivers license or other state issued identification upon entering the building. The badge you receive must be worn the entire time that you are on school grounds. The badge will identify the area of the building in which you are permitted to go. For the safety of our students and staff, if you are found in an area of the building not indicated on your badge, you will be asked to return to the office. 

Pre-Kindergarten classes are available for students who qualify based on limited English proficiency and/or income requirements. Morning Pre-Kindergarten classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. Afternoon Pre-Kindergarten classes begin at 12:00 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. 

Alvin ISD has computerized food service registers. When a student enters the AISD system, he or she is given a PIN number in order to access his or her account. Every student in the school district, regardless of his or her ability to pay, is issued a PIN number. Applications for the free and reduced lunch program are available on the Child Nutrition Website.  

To register your child for school, please bring the following items or copies of the items to the school office:

Immunization Record
Proof of Income (Pre-Kindergarten Only)
State Issued I.D.
Proof of Residency
