Many residents of the Alvin ISD community may remember “The Day,” a one day only community service project having thousands of Alvin ISD students and employees completing service projects throughout the area. “The Day” took place in 2018 and 2019 before the pandemic forced it to shut down for two years. This year, Alvin ISD is reinventing the concept of “The Day” with a new community service initiative called Alvin ISD Serves.

Alvin ISD Serves will take place in November and will see each Alvin ISD campus and department completing different community service projects throughout the month.

“We loved the concept of ‘The Day’ as a way to give back to the community who gives so much to us,” shared Alvin ISD Superintendent Carol Nelson. “We wanted to do something different and by spreading the service out throughout the month, it will provide schools with more flexibility of when to complete their projects and show strong support for our community.”

Alvin ISD campuses are currently brainstorming ideas and needs for their immediate school community.

“The particular project doesn’t matter. It’s more about expressing gratitude to the community who gives us so much, and even more so, it is about instilling a heart to serve in our students,” said Nelson.

Be on the lookout during the month of November. You may be seeing Alvin ISD students performing a variety of service projects throughout the community.
