Hundreds gathered at Iowa Colony High School on Tuesday, September 27 to celebrate the dedication of Alvin ISD’s fourth comprehensive high school.
The new campus, located at 3700 County Road 64 in Iowa Colony, opened its doors last month to 9th and 10th grade students.
Construction began on Iowa Colony High School in the summer of 2019. The 553,086 sq. ft. facility includes modern instructional spaces for core content, fine arts, athletics, and Career and Technology, as well as a double level auditorium.
“It has been such a pleasure to be able to open this school. These first few months have been so exciting to watch as the students and staff develop and establish an identity and culture for our campus,” said Principal Dr. Ashley Marquez.
The dedication began with the singing of the National Anthem by the Iowa Colony Pioneer Choir. After welcome and introductions, the Iowa Colony Pioneer Band performed. Alvin ISD Board President Earl Humbird said a few words, followed by Superintendent Carol Nelson, who presented a special plaque to Principal Dr. Ashley Marquez and her staff and students. Iowa Colony’s very first Student Council President, Kairi Bullock, read the poem “Human Family” by Maya Angelou. State Representative Ed Thompson presented Principal Marquez with a proclamation.
In closing, guests were treated with a wonderful video showcasing the beautiful campus before students took them on a tour of the campus.
“I am so proud to be an Iowa Colony Pioneer,” said student Kairi Bullock. “It has been an honor to be a part of the opening of this wonderful school.”
“The dedication was a great night! I am so honored to be the principal of such a wonderful school and community,” said Marquez.
