Children don't come with manuals. As a parent, sometimes it is difficult to know what to do. We know you want the best for your child and Alvin ISD is here to help. That is why the Alvin ISD Family and Community Engagement Department has put together a wide variety of free workshops for parents and caregivers that offer ideas, tips, and support in raising children. The program, called Alvin ISD Parent University, will get underway on August 16, 2022 with a workshop on school safety in Alvin ISD. This topic will be offered in both English and Spanish and will be facilitated by Rory Gesch, Alvin ISD Deputy Superintendent of Operations, Trent Thrasher, Executive Director of Student & Administrative Services, and Matt DeVeau, Executive Director of Support Services.

Parent University will host a wide variety of  workshops during the 2022-23 school year. All of these workshops will be offered in both English and Spanish. While many of these will be offered as a virtual platform, others will be offered face-to-face.

“Through the Parent University workshops, Alvin ISD will be providing virtual and in-person parent workshops that will cover topics such as school safety, utilizing Skyward, child and adolescent mental health, tobacco and vaping prevention, and accessing additional academic and behavior support”, said Ana Pasarella, Director of Family and Community Engagement.

In addition to seminars throughout the year, Alvin ISD Parent University also offers ESL Classes and an International Book Club.
