Distinguished Young Women is a unique program that combines the chance to win college scholarships with a program that offers Life Skills training to prepare young women for the world after high school. Each year the program makes over $1 billion dollars in scholarships available, and it costs nothing to enter! Distinguished Young Women of Brazoria-Galveston Counties is one of hundreds of local programs across the country.

Each Distinguished Young Women program evaluates participants in the following categories: Scholastics (25%), Interview (25%), Talent (20%), Fitness (15%), and Self-Expression (15%). Two representatives will advance to the state level this upcoming January. All state winners participate in the National Finals in Mobile, Alabama in June 2023.

This year’s local program was held in Pearland at The Lakes at Countryplace Clubhouse. $1400 in cash scholarships were awarded and all the participants are eligible for College-Granted Scholarships at schools around the country.

Alvin ISD had several students participate in the program. Congratulations to Shadow Creek High School junior Juliet George. Juliet was selected as the Distinguished Young Woman of Brazoria County for the Class of 2023. She took home a $500 cash scholarship.

Also, congratulations to Alvin High School’s Gracey Kettler. She was chosen as the Self-Expression Category winner and is the recipient of a $100 cash scholarship.
