Whataburger was the title sponsor for the Annual Alvin ISD Education Foundation Turtle Race and UTMB Health was the title sponsor of the Turtle Race Fun Run. Cool weather helped create a great atmosphere for the over 550 runners and the 70 vendors who were in attendance. Most importantly, Alvin ISD students, staff, community members, and friends adopted 15,791 turtles that raced down Mustang Bayou. The adopters of the first eleven turtles to cross the finish line received prizes as well as the last place, slowest swimmer, prize. Once final numbers are in, the Foundation expects to have raised over $130,000 for Innovative Teaching Grants, student and teacher scholarships and more for the students and staff throughout Alvin ISD.

“It was a great day and a wonderful community event. It is always fun to see the staff, students and families enjoying the Fun Run and activities together,” said Alvin ISD Education Foundation Board member and Turtle Race chairperson Mary Jane Crumm.

The winning turtle was adopted by Jada Scott who won a $1,500 travel voucher provided by Stantec. Rita Guerra won the second prize of a $1,000 shopping spree provided by Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union and Elizabeth Aguilera who won the third place prize of a $500 gift card provided by Texas Advantage Community Bank.

The fourth place winner was Jennifer Marz, who received a family membership to the Museum of Fine Arts and a Gringos gift card;  Robin Foster won fifth place with a prize of Kendra Scott jewelry donated by Kendra Scott;   Darren Shelton, won the sixth place prize of a $200 Amazon gift card donated by the AISD Foundation; Natalie Macias won seventh place and a movie night basket donated by the AISD Foundation; Tiffany James won eighth place of Nothing Bundt Cakes bundtlets for a year and a Memory Quilt gift certificate, donated by Nothing Bundt Cakes – Pearland and Tiffany Verot of the Memory Quilt Company; Kensey Weaver won ninth place of a Bose Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker donated by Alvin Pest Control; Kristen Cortese, tenth place which of a $100 HEB gift card donated by HEB; 11th place was won by Jenn Garoutte a The 1894 Grand Theater gift certificate and a Gringos gift card, donated by The 1894 Grand and Gringos and 12th place was a $100 Main Event gift card won by Lincoln Riley; Finally, the Slowest Swimmer prize of a Whataburger for a Year gift basket donated by Whataburger went to Fernando Paone.

In addition, every runner received a t-shirt donated by BSN Sports and finishers received medals. Winners of the 5K Fun Run were overall Female was Kimberly Navarrette and the overall Male winner was Julio Ramirez. The winners in the Kids 1K Run were 1st place girls Isabella Hatchman, Aurora Rincon-Moreno in 2nd Place and 3rd Place Callie Hairston. The boys 1K winners were 1st place Yuto Asano, 2nd Place Jack Townsend and 3rd Place Oran Whatley.
