On Friday, October 15, Alvin ISD dedicated the transportation center located at Heritage Complex in honor of Mr. Al Dietrich. Dietrich began his career as a teacher/coach at Alvin Junior High from 1957 to 1975 when he became the first director of Transportation for Alvin ISD. Dietrich was a Certified School Bus Trainer, a Certified Emergency Medical Tech, Certified Transportation Official and a member of the Texas and National Association of Public Transportation. One of his greatest accomplishments during his tenure at Alvin ISD was the implementation of propane buses, which was more economical for the district. Dietrich was extremely proud to be an integral part of a growing District.

“We are pleased to honor Mr. Al Dietrich for leading with compassion and dignity throughout his career,” Carol Nelson Superintendent of Alvin ISD shared. “We know his commitment to Alvin ISD, and the lasting influences, will forever be a part of the district.”

Several drivers, who had the pleasure of working for Mr. Dietrich, were in attendance for the ceremony. Director of Transportation Greg Bingham shared his personal stories of being trained in three days, and how hazard lights on deck meant no busses were leaving while Mr. Dietrich himself was driving the district to ensure safety.

Alvin ISD is proud to honor the Dietrich legacy.
