When Alvin ISD got a request from Mr. Pat Moore asking to receive his diploma from Alvin High School after 75 years, they jumped at the opportunity to provide this experience for him and his family. Mr. Moore, Alvin High School class of 1946, had to leave school during his senior year when Uncle Sam called and he got drafted into the armed services.

During the April 13, 2021 Board Meeting, the Alvin ISD Board of Trustees presented him with his diploma, allowable under Texas Education Code (TEC) 28.0251.

Alvin ISD hosted the Moore family with a small reception prior to the board meeting. There, Alvin High School Principal Karen Taylor presented him with an Alvin ISD letterman jacket and a graduation gown.

“This is such an amazing ceremony to be a part of,” Taylor said. “Not only is Mr. Moore getting the opportunity to graduate, his great granddaughter is actually graduating from Alvin ISD this year as well, so this is such a special time for their family.”

During the meeting, Pomp and Circumstance began to play and Mr. Moore finally got the opportunity to walk down the aisle to receive his long-awaited diploma.

“This was a lifelong dream of mine so I thank Alvin ISD for helping me make this dream come true,” Moore said.
