Alvin ISD’s Communications Department won 13 TSPRA (Texas School Public Relations Association) Star Awards. The award winners were announced at TSPRA’s Annual Conference, held Feb. 22-26 in Denton.

The department won three Best of Category Awards, 11 Gold Star Awards, one Silver Star Awards, and one Bronze Award.

“I am so proud of our team. This talented group of individuals do an outstanding job of promoting Alvin ISD. It’s exciting to see their hard work rewarded,” said Renae Rives, Alvin ISD Director of Communications.

The department consists of Director of Communications, Renae Rives, Graphics and Communications Coordinator, Rachel Moore, Multimedia Communications Specialist, Kinsey Droege, Multimedia Communications Specialist/Videographer, Phil Jean, and Administrative Assistants Tammy Mentzel and Melinda Purcell.

The department won a Gold Star Award in the Printed External Newsletter Category for the Alvin ISD Community Connection Newsletter, a Gold Star in the Flyer Category for the Read, Write, Repeat Flyer, a Gold Star in the Education Good News Campaign Category for the Alvin ISD custodian, who made headlines across the world for her compassion in a time of desperation for a student. They also received a Bronze Star in the Print Materials in a Language Other than English category for the Food and Toy Drive Flyer and a Silver Star in the Logo, Trademark, Symbol for the STEM Bus Logo. The team won a Best of Category Award and a Gold Star for the In Bloom Virtual Recognition Ceremony Invitation, submitted by Rachel Moore.

Videographer Phil Jean received seven Gold Star Awards including two Best of Category Awards for his Video News Package covering the 2019 First Day of School and for Video Promotional for his overview video for Alvin ISD’s JB Hensler College and Career Academy.
