Alvin Independent School District is proud to announce the 2020-21 principals of the year. Krystal Hawks, principal of Shirley Brothers Elementary, was named the Elementary Principal of the Year and Karen Taylor, principal of Alvin High School, was named the Secondary Principal of the Year. They were nominated by their peers for being both campus and district leaders.

Hawks has been Brothers Elementary Principal since it opened in 2017. She has been part of the Alvin ISD family for 15 years.

When asked what this award means to her, Hawks said, “I find that it aligns with our school vision at Brothers Elementary that I remind my students of each and every morning before they start their day....’Bearkats, it’s now time to level up.’ This award is proof that you can always change and become a better version of yourself. Being named Principal of the Year is honestly a dream come true and I am most grateful for this recognition.”

Karen Taylor was assistant principal at Alvin High before becoming the principal in 2019. While Taylor is honored to be Secondary Principal of the Year, she gives credit to the students and exceptional teachers and staff of Alvin High School who have dedicated their lives to educating our students.

“Being named Secondary Principal of the Year is the culmination of the thousands of students I've taught and hundreds of educators with whom I've worked with. I share this distinction with each and every one of them.  I'm honored that my peers recognize my dedication to the students and staff at AHS and Alvin ISD. While I may not be an AHS alumni, I've been an Alvin Yellowjacket for almost twenty years! Jacket Pride Never Dies!” Taylor said.

They will both be honored at the Virtual Employee Recognition Ceremony in May along with the campus teachers and paraprofessionals of the year.
