The Minecraft Education Global Build Championship was designed to engage students and meet their remote learning needs. Learners were challenged to design and build healthy spaces for animals and humans to coexist in Minecraft. Isabella Moralde and Naaman Roberts, both 9th graders at Shadow Creek HS and members of Team Cubic Force, competed with over 1,250 teams from 61 countries around the world! They were 1 of 3 finalists in the first ever 2020 Minecraft Global Build Championship with their world, “Terrapod and Aquapod.”

“I use Minecraft Education Edition with my Principles of Information Technology classes. I was on the Minecraft site and saw the announcement for the Global Challenge. I posted it in Teams looking for volunteers, and Isabella and Naaman sent me their build to submit,” shared Shadow Creek HS Instructional Technology teacher, Ms. Rita Coulon. “I am so proud of their hard work and dedication to this project!”

When asked why they wanted to compete, Naaman and Isabella stated, “We wanted to be in the competition because we are big Minecraft fans, and we jumped at the opportunity to show off our Minecraft building skills. Plus, the bonus was the challenge of competing against students all around the world!”

Ms. Coulon hopes to take this opportunity to open up the world of Minecraft to other students at Shadow Creek High School.

“I plan to write a grant and try to get some money to start a Minecraft Club at Shadow Creek HS. Naaman and Isabella will be involved in the creation of this club,” Coulon added.
