For the eighth year in a row, Alvin ISD was recognized with the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for the 2020–2021 budget year by The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for excellence in budget presentation. ASBO International’s MBA promotes and recognizes best budget presentation practices in school districts. Alvin ISD successfully demonstrated they have met the necessary program requirements to receive this recognition.

"The Comprehensive Annual Budget Book is an excellent tool for the District to provide readers with a 'glimpse into Alvin ISD' as it is presented with full transparency in regards to our budgeting decisions while maintaining our students as a priority,” shared Sonja Hockin, Alvin ISD’s Director of Budgeting. “The District continues to uphold the Alvin ISD Budget Motto, which states, we are conservative where we can be, so we can be progressive where we should be."

Alvin ISD also received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for our Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended August 31, 2019. This award is given by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

“I am so grateful our district is being recognized for excellent financial reporting,” Superintendent Carol Nelson said. “The fact that Alvin ISD received this award truly shows our district’s tradition of excellence most definitely includes our outstanding Finance Department.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

Alvin ISD takes great pride in making the best possible use of tax payer dollars to provide a high-quality education to each and every student in our district.
