A school’s mascot and colors are a point of pride and tradition. That’s why Alvin ISD is proud to announce Iowa Colony High School’s official mascot will be the Pioneers and its colors will be forest green, silver, and black. The mascot and colors were announced during the school board meeting on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.

“A school’s identity is so important,” shared Alvin ISD Superintendent Carol Nelson. "It’s pivotal to building a culture. For years to come, our students will rally behind the mascot and the school colors so it’s not something we take lightly.”

District administrators met with groups of 5th and 6th graders from elementary and jr. high schools who will eventually be the first students to attend Alvin ISD’s 4th comprehensive high school. The students were excited to provide their opinions and suggestions for the identity of their new school.

“After several meetings with future students of the school, they ultimately chose the Pioneers because the definition of a pioneer is one who goes before, showing others the way to follow. The students liked the idea of being leaders,” said Renae Rives, Alvin ISD Director of Communications.

Iowa Colony High School, located at 3700 County Road 64 in Iowa Colony, is scheduled to open in Summer 2022. The 553,086 sq. ft. high school will accommodate 2,500 students and feature 2 band halls, 6 arts rooms, a dance and cheer gym, increased classroom sizes, a culinary lab, robotics lab, natatorium, and more. The campus was part of the district’s 2018 $480.5 million-dollar Bond package.

“I am excited to cheer for our kids and watch our supportive community rally around our new high school. Go Pioneers!” said Nelson.

The new logo for the Iowa Colony High School Pioneers will be presented to the students and community in the upcoming months.

The mascot and colors of Alvin ISD’s newest Jr. High School were also revealed on Tuesday evening. Jackie Doucet Caffey Jr. High, located in Manvel, will be the Cardinals and the school colors will be red, yellow, and black. Caffey Jr. High is scheduled to open summer 2021.
