If you could design your dream school, what features would you include? That’s what Ms. Diaz’s AVL Third Graders did this week. Prior to the learning event, which happened on October 8th, students picked up their project materials to allow them to be ready for a STEMastic day of learning.

To start the day, students listened to the book “If I Built a School” by Chris Van Dusen. Then using straws, connectors, and some paper floor plan templates, they created their very own dream school. Looking at their creation for inspiration, each student completed a written description of their school as well as recorded a Flipgrid response so their classmates could see their creation. The final project component challenged students to calculate the cost of their project.

"This integrative hands-on learning project allowed our AVL learners to experience learning in a fun and engaging way," Meridiana librarian Christine Roberts shared.
