Alvin ISD has announced that all students can receive free breakfast and lunch starting September 9, whether they are an Alvin Virtual Learner or a Face-to-Face learner.
The meals are available at no charge for students and community members 18 years old and under.
For the Alvin Virtual Learners, Alvin ISD is offering multiple meals available for pick up on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Please take advantage of this service on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. at the following campuses:
Alvin Junior High Rodeo Palms Junior High Harby Junior High Manvel Junior High Mark Twain Elementary Hasse Elementary Walt Disney Elementary Savannah Lakes Elementary Nelson Elementary Sanchez Elementary
If the children are not present in the car, you must have a student ID, birth certificate, enrollment letter etc. to prove their eligibility for the meals.
The program is set to expire on December 31, 2020 or when the money runs out, as a result of a waiver from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).
Even though meals may be free through December, it is still extremely important for families to apply for free or reduced-price meal benefits.
“Parents may not see the point of applying now, but much of the funding that school districts receive for academic intervention is based on the percentage of our students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. We rely on this funding to provide supplemental services to students in high need areas. Plus, the program may not be extended beyond December, so we’re encouraging families to go ahead apply now so there is no risk of a break in benefits when funding runs out,” shared Child Nutrition Director, Jennifer Basich.
