The Feed the Hungry/Shellie Garza Memorial Alvin ISD and Alvin Community College Food and Toy Drive began in October on every campus by collecting non-perishable food items and toys to distribute to families in need. The partnership between the two entities allows children and families of both Alvin ISD and ACC to receive help with food during the holiday season. A second partnership is made through Toys for Tots of Brazoria County to ensure that the children nominated receive a toy for Christmas. This year, approximately 450 families were nominated in both Alvin ISD and ACC. The families attended Breakfast with Santa on December 7 at either Alvin Community College or Manvel High School based on their proximity to each location. The children at both locations were able to eat breakfast and enjoy fun holiday themed activities while their parents picked up the boxes of food and toys for them to enjoy. Santa was at both locations so the children were able to share their Christmas wish with him and snap a keepsake photo. Between both locations, the food drive served breakfast to around 1,300 people. Alvin ISD would like to say thank you to the many individuals across the district that donated their time and food and/or toys to help make this year’s drive a success for families.
