Sydney Castro, a senior at Manvel High School, has big plans. She will be attending Occidental University in Los Angeles, California in the fall, where she will major in pre-law. For now, Sydney is affecting change in her local community. She conducted a survey amongst her peers, and in her community of Manvel, and found that minorities and young voters were not being properly represented in elections. While learning and working on Mayor Turner's mayoral reelection campaign, she decided to try and bolster her own community's activism. Sydney organized a group she calls "Vote Smart Manvel", whose main goal is to inform students about the importance of voting, as well as helping them register to vote. She has conducted a voter registration drive on her campus and has plans to organize a community one in Manvel soon.
