In Alvin ISD, we like to highlight outstanding individuals both inside and outside the classroom. Thomas Clement is one of those individuals as he has a very important position within our district. As the transportation department shop foreman, Thomas oversees fifteen mechanics whose sole duty is to make sure our buses are performing at the highest standards each and every day.

“Coming from Santa Fe ISD where we had forty routes max, to Alvin ISD who has 182 routes was a drastic change, but being in this district is truly the best feeling,” Thomas shared. “Alvin ISD is a large family. It doesn’t matter who I call or when I call, everyone is always willing to help each other to make sure the job is done correctly the very first time.”

In July, the transportation team headed to the TASBT (Texas Association of School Bus Technicians) conference, along with over sixty other districts in Texas, to network and communicate on various school district transportation issues. “The individuals within this group are fantastic,” Thomas shared. “If I’m having a problem with a bus that I cannot seem to figure out, I know I can call any one of my friends within the organization and they can help solve the issue.”

During the conference, the organization hosted Texas Best Competition allowing for Thomas and other transportation officials to test their skills against others in the state. Thomas shined during the competition by winning the second place spot on the technician side, beating over thirty other competitors. “Winning second is such an accomplishment because not only am I going up against the best, I’m challenging my own skill set which continues to make me a better employee.”

Alvin ISD is proud of Thomas, and thankful for the many individuals within our transportation team who strive to keep our students safe each and every day.
