Alvin ISD presented a comprehensive review of the progress and achievements resulting from the voter-approved 2018 bond during the October 8 Alvin ISD Board meeting. Deputy Superintendent, Rory Gesch, and Director of Planning & Construction Services, Bill VanWagner, highlighted key milestones that have bolstered the district’s ability to accommodate significant growth and enhance student safety.

The 2018 bond, which passed with 68.48% of voter support and secured $480.5 million in funding, has led to the successful completion of all projects on time and under budget.

“That is an achievement that reflects the careful planning, dedication and collaboration of many departments and individuals across our district,” shared Gesch.

At the time of the bond's approval, Alvin ISD’s enrollment stood at 25,737 students for the 2018-2019 school year. As of the 2024-2025 school year, the district serves over 30,000 students and anticipates reaching 34,000 students by 2030.

Take a look at the completed projects from the 2018 Bond.

Iowa Colony Junior High:

Designed to accommodate the growing junior high student population, the school’s modern facilities and infrastructure ensure students receive high-quality education in an optimal learning environment.

The 2018 bond also allocated $12 million for the purchase of land and to enhance security measures across district campuses. Since then, Alvin ISD has secured additional land to support the construction of future schools in high-growth areas. The district has also made significant strides in improving physical security through various upgrades and enhancements, ensuring a safer environment for students and staff. With continued growth, Alvin ISD remains committed to maintaining the high standards of education and quality facilities for all students.

Alvin ISD Superintendent Carol Nelson stated,  “As a district, we are deeply appreciative to the community for the trust and support given throughout the bond process.”

As Alvin ISD continues to experience rapid growth, the Board of Trustees has called for a $380.1 million bond election on the upcoming November 5 ballot to address five key areas including new student growth, aging campuses, safety and security, and land, all while enabling a 2¢ reduction in the tax rate.
