Five secondary and six elementary educators have been selected as the finalists for Alvin ISD District Teachers of the Year.

Winners of their campus Teacher of the Year are tasked with then applying for the district Teacher of the Year process. Applications focus on teaching strategies, core values, classroom initiatives and a focus on the future of education.

Congratulations to elementary finalists Christine Parker, Pomona Elementary; Guadalupe Fuentes, Sanchez Elementary; Calle Navarre, Duke Elementary; Denise Stanton, Mark Twain Elementary; Christian Byrd, Marek Elementary; and LaShel Rowton, Disney Elementary.

And secondary finalists Ernest Parker, Rodeo Palms JH; Vickie Koehler, RISE Academy; Rachel Easley, Iowa Colony HS; Mary Stimson, Alvin HS; and Natalie David, Alvin JH.

A committee made up of community leaders and district administrators will now meet for in-person interviews with the candidates to determine the district Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year.

The winners will be announced at the Employee Recognition Ceremony on May 9 at Iowa Colony High School. The two chosen will go on to represent Alvin ISD at the Region 4 Teacher of the Year competition.
