As we get into the swing of the second semester, Alvin ISD is looking ahead to the 2024-2025 school year as the Board of Trustees approved the 2024-2025 Academic Calendar at its January board meeting.
For staff, first-year teachers will start on July 29, just before all new-to-the-district teachers and all returning teachers will start on August 1.
Alvin ISD transition students (Pre-K, Kinder, 6th, and 9th) will return to school after the summer break on Monday, August 12 and all other students returning on Tuesday, August 13.
The calendar includes 172 instructional days, 77,000 minutes of instructional minutes, and 187 teacher work days.
The calendar also includes a Fall break in October that falls during the Brazoria County Fair and the school year will wrap up before Memorial Day weekend.
Graduation dates for each of the high schools, which will include Iowa Colony’s first-ever graduation, are still being determined. We will announce the details and post an updated calendar when the dates and times are finalized.
The calendar was crafted by the District Education Improvement Committee, which includes parents, community members and Alvin ISD administrators. The committee collaborated during several meetings to create a calendar that would meet all of the state’s requirements while benefiting the community as whole. Students’ instructional needs, along with the needs of local businesses, as well as the input provided by parents and staff, were all considered as the calendar was developed.
