Strong academics and outstanding opportunities for students continue to make Alvin ISD a premier school district for families. As a result, we’re constantly growing – welcoming new students, hiring new staff and opening new schools.
The District averages 4.5% growth annually and typically adds between 600 - 1,000 students each year. Today, the District serves more than 29,000 students in 33 schools.
To meet the construction needs of the District, the citizens of Alvin ISD authorized the issuance of bonds through seven referendums in a 20-year period (2000, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2015, and 2018). These referendums received strong support from the community for public education and for meeting the needs of students.
As you can imagine, building for Alvin ISD's unprecedented growth involves both long and short-term planning and balanced responsible management of time, money and resources. The District utilizes an experienced outside consulting group to monitor growth in neighborhoods, new construction and population trends.
Alvin ISD has long sought the input and guidance of parents and community members with the development of bond packages that have supported the District’s unprecedented growth and maintained existing facilities.
Over the years, the role of Citizens’ Advisory Committees (CAC) has been to review existing Alvin ISD facilities and capacities, historical growth and projections, economic indicators and growth plans of the city, as well as cost estimates and financial implications. The work of these volunteers has determined the size and scope of the bond packages presented to voters.
The group serves in an advisory role, as ultimately the Alvin ISD Board of Trustees is responsible for the oversight of bond funds.
