The Alvin ISD Athletic Dept. is providing online ticketing to purchase tickets for all of the Alvin ISD athletic events at the high school and junior high level.  Each junior high school is listed under their feeder pattern high school link.  Online tickets for varsity football games may be purchased at pre-sale prices until midnight the day before the game.  Ticket sales will resume at 4:00 p.m. the day of the game.  A QR Code will be available at all ticket gates to purchase tickets at the door.

Lady Yellowjackets honored in all-district volleyball picks – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets received a total five selections to the All-District 22-6A Volleyball team. Brooklyn Morris earned first team honors, while Payton Ashley gained second team honors and honorable mention status went to Reece Shotwell, Camryn Mercer and Kennedi Hanson.  Lady Yellowjackets making the all-district academic list included Joana Cach, Karlie Dorsten, Morgan Gassaway, Laila Johnson, Hansen, Mercer, Morris, Ashley Morgan, Tatara Roland, Shotwell,  Reagan Strban and Lauren Weber.

Massie named setter of the year in 22-6A – Senior Kennedy Massie was named the setter of the year in 22-6A to highlight the regional semifinalist Manvel Lady Mavericks’ all-district volleyball selections. Lady Mavs joining Massie on the first team was Nevah English, while second team honors went to Emerson Chang, Cynthia Daniels, Samantha Guikema, Keagan St. Junious, Ryland Lilly and Kaycee Pennie. Making the honorable mention list was Elise Headley, London King and Kamille Jackson and the all-district academic list featured Chang, Daniels, Guikema, Headley, Kadia Jackson, Kamille Jackson, Junious, King, Massie, Pennie and Niara Williams. Manvel went 30-14 and posted playoff wins over Fort Bend Austin and Clear Creek.

Lady Sharks’ trio receive all-district individual awards – Fresh off a program first ever advancement to the Regional Finals, the Shadow Creek Lady Sharks also received plenty of individual hardware in the All-District 22-6A Volleyball selections. Mackenzie Collins was named the offensive player of the year in the district, while Kennedy Procter earned blocker of the year honors and Bella Law was tabbed as the league’s newcomer of the year. Also making the first team for the Lady Sharks were Aspen Brown, Tamarria Mitchell and Lauryn Wiley, while second team picks went to Kelly Kelsick and making the honorable mention list was Kiara Horne, Maria Lo and Catallina West. Named to the all-district academic team were Brown, Mitchell, Proctor, Lo, Simone Robinson, West and Wiley. Shadow Creek went 35-12 and advanced to the regional finals for the first time in program history with playoff wins over Clements, Clear Springs and Katy Jordan.

Sharks explode for team record in district win over Dawson – The No. 3 State Ranked Shadow Creek Boys’ Basketball team moved their record to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in district with a dominating 121-74 triumph over Dawson, Tuesday in 22-6A Boys’ Basketball action in Pearland, Bryce Jackson pumped in a game-high 31 points, followed by Michael Collins with 28 points, Aiden Law with 22 points, Julian Culler with 13 points and Adin Lewis with 11 points. The 121 points is the most points in a single game for Shadow Creek in the program’s history.

Iowa Colony Pioneer Report

Pioneers’ banner season ends in State Quarterfinals – The Iowa Colony Pioneers’ banner season came to a heartbreaking close in the Class 5A State Football Quarterfinals in  Division 2 with an 21-14 overtime defeat to Richmond Randle, Dec. 7 at NRG Stadium in Houston. Quarterback Carson White scored on a quarterback sneak and also threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Ian Hill. Jeremy Hill also had an interception in the contest for the 12-2 Pioneers, who posted playoff victories over Killeen Ellison (47-6), Pflugerville (44-14) and Fort Bend Marshall (31-21). After advancing to the 4A regional semifinals in just their second year as a varsity squad in 2023, the Pioneers competed in the fourth round of the UIL Playoffs for the first time in school history.

Yellowjacket Football honored for both academic and field work – The Alvin High School Varsity Football team was recently honored for their work in both the classroom and on the field. The Yellowjackets had a total of six players named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Football team. Drew Bingham was a second team selection, while honorable mention picks included Chuk Phillips, Zane Bailey, Vincent Castillo, Alex Argueta and Sammy Fernandez. The Yellowjackets also had 13 players named to the All-District 22-6A Football team. Walker named top return specialist in 22-6A – Receiver Antoine Walker was named the top return specialist in 22-6A to highlight the area playoff finalist Manvel Mavericks’ all-district selections. Wilder was also named to the first team offense at receiver, while first team defensive picks for Manvel included tackles Keian Cross and Chris Smith along with inside linebacker Byron Carter Jr. Second offensive nods went to tackle William Timon, guard Josiah Johnson, running back Xaiden Brown and quarterback Cam Renfro, while ST defensive picks featured end Amarion Fuller, outside linebacker Karnell James and safety Brian Robinson. Lady Mavericks edge Shadow Creek in 22-6A Girls’ Hoops – The Manvel Lady Mavericks moved their record to 14-4 for the season and 3-1 in 22-6A with a 60-50 victory over Shadow Creek, Dec. 3 at SCHS. Leading the way for the Lady Mavs was Peyton Cooks with 20 points and nine rebounds, Kailey Guidry with nine points, Jalynn Chatman with eight points, Akyla Fields with seven points and Lynnden Smith with six points and four rebounds.

22-6A Champs dominate All-District Football selections – The 22-6A Champion Shadow Creek Sharks dominated the all-district football selections. Receiver Chris Stewart earned offensive MVP honors and inside linebacker Tommy Baker was named the league’s defensive MVP, while running back Tristan Willis was selected as the offensive newcomer of the year and the Sharks received the coaching staff of the year award as well. Other first team selections included offensive guard Chace Murray, running back Alex Kirkland, receivers Rahim Hutchins and Ashton Jones, defensive ends Nathan Harris and Deneim Scott, defensive tackle Donovan Rogers-McNeil, outside linebacker Anthony Williams, inside linebacker Ethan Tinney, cornerbacks Cobey Sellers and Cameron Jamerson, safeties Kyle Peterson and Carter Stewart. Sharks continue fast start with win over Manvel – The No. 3 State Ranked Shadow Creek Boys’ Basketball team improved to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in 22-6A to continue their fast start to the season with an 88-44 triumph over Manvel on Dec. 3 in Pearland. Bryce Jackson pumped in a game-high 29 points, followed by Michael Collins with 19 points, six assists and four rebounds, Julian Cullier with 11 points and Daniel Green and Caleb Jordan with 10 points apiece.

Lady Sharks drop tight contest with Lady Mavs – The Shadow Creek Basketball Girls dropped a 60-50 tight contest with Manvel in 22-6A Basketball action on Dec. 3 in Pearland. Zoe Senganya pumped in 17 points to lead the Lady Sharks (12-6 overall, 3-1), while Da`Niyah Lewis added 12 points and Preston Young provided nine rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots.

Pioneers advance to Class 5A State Football Quarterfinals – The Iowa Colony Pioneers captured a 31-21 triumph over Fort Bend Marshall in the Class 5A Regional Football Semifinals on Dec. 29 at NRG Stadium in Houston. The victory advances the 12-1 Pioneers into the Class 5A State Division 2 State Quarterfinals for the first time in school history and Iowa Colony will play 9-5A D-2 rival Richmond Randle, Saturday night at NRG Stadium at 6 p.m. In last week’s victory over Marshall, Jayden Warren caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carson White and also exploded for a 90-yard kickoff return for another TD. White also scored on QB keepers of 1 and 2 yards and Andy Cruz booted a 32-yard field goal through the uprights.

Iowa Colony Boys Basketball ranked ninth in state by TABC – The Iowa Colony Boys’ Basketball team is also enjoying a fast start to their season with an 8-5 record currently placing the Pioneers ninth in the state in Class 5A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Iowa Colony rolled to a 66-52 home victory over George Ranch on Dec. 3. Leading the way for the Pioneers was B.J. Gill with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Also scoring in double figures was R.J. Green with 14 points and two rebounds, Daylen Daycour with 13 points and seven rebounds and Jayden Evans with eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Garza’ game-winning FG lifts Yellowjackets in season finale – Enrique Garza booted a game-winning 36-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Alvin Yellowjackets to a thrilling 31-28 triumph over Memorial, Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Pasadena. Closing the season at 3-7 overall and 2-6 in 22-6A, the Yellowjackets drove 56 yards in 13 plays to set up Garza’s game-winner through the uprights. Quarterback Drew Bingham rushed for 131 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns, while Samuel Fernandez added 118 yards on 23 carries. Carlos Medina chipped in a rushing TD and Ethan Evans also recovered a fumble to set up another Alvin touchdown.

Lady Mavericks’ Volleyball sweeps Clear Creek in area playoffs – The Manvel Lady Mavericks captured a 25-23, 25-17 and 25-23 straight set sweep over Clear Creek in the Class 6A Division 2 Area Round Volleyball Playoffs, Friday at Dobie High School in Houston. Moving their record to 30-13 overall, the Lady Mavericks will now play Stratford, Tuesday in the Regional III-6A Quarterfinals at Deer Park High School at 6 p.m.. Kadia Jackson blasted a team-high 12 kills, while Nevaeh English and Jasmyn Walker added nine kills apiece and Kenedy Massie dished out 28 assists. Manvel advanced to the area round by defeating Fort Bend Austin in four sets by 25-15, 25-12, 19-25 and 25-14 bi-district scores on Nov. 5 at Iowa Colony HS. Massie had another big night with 36 assists and 10 digs for a double double to go along with eight kills, four aces and three blocks. Walker and Kaycee Pennie also hammered 13 kills each for Manvel in the win.

Mavericks’ Football meets Hightower in 6A D-2 Football Playoffs – The Manvel Mavericks will compete in the Class 6A Division 2 Bi-District Football Playoffs, Thursday night in Missouri City with the Mavericks taking on Hightower at Hall Stadium at 7 p.m. Manvel enters the contest with a 5-5 overall record and finished district play as 22-6A’s second seed in D-2. The Mavericks clinched a playoff for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons with a 38-7 victory over Dawson on Nov. 1. Quarterback Cam Renfro accounted for 338 yards of total offense and five touchdowns, while the Manvel limited Dawson to just 38 rushing yards and collected four sacks.

Shadow Creek Volleyball outlasts Clear – The Shadow Creek Lady Sharks earned a berth to the Region III-6A Division 2 Regional Volleyball Quarterfinals by outlasting Clear Springs in the area round in five sets by 25-21, 16-25, 25-12, 22-25 and 15-11 scores on Nov. 7 at Dobie High School in Houston. Moving their record to 34-11 overall, the Lady Sharks advance to play Katy Jordan in the region quarters, Tuesday at Delmar Field House in Houston at 6 p.m. The Lady Sharks were fueled by a 6-0 go-ahead run in the fifth and final set against the Lady Wildcats with Aspen Brown and Mackenzie Collins closing out the match with consecutive kills. Shadow Creek had opened last week with a 25-17, 25-11 and 25-9 straight set bi-district sweep over Clements on Nov. 5 at Almeta Crawford HS in Rosharon.

Sharks clinch 22-6A Football crown – The Shadow Creek Sharks secured the 22-6A Football Championship with a 72-0 triumph over Sam Rayburn, Friday at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. The victory was the ninth straight for the Sharks (9-1 overall, 8-0) and sends head coach Tyrone Green’s squad  into the Class 6A Football Playoffs as the Division 2 top seed for 22-6A. The Sharks, who will be playing in the postseason for the seventh straight year, host Elkins in the bi-district round, Thursday night at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony at 7 p.m. Dante Mayes completed 7 of 8 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns to key the win over Rayburn. Tristin Willis also exploded for a 93-yard scoring run in the contest.

Playoff Bound Pioneers secure No. 2 seed – The Playoff Bound Iowa Colony Pioneers clinched the No. 2 seed in 9-5A Division 2 with a 40-18 triumph over Texas City, Friday night at AISD Freedom Field. The victory sends the 9-1 Pioneers into the bi-district round against Killeen Ellison, Nov. 15 at Freedom Field at 7:30 p.m. Quarterback Carson White completed 7 of 17 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 102 yards on seven attempts and three TD’s. Andy Cruz also booted field goals of 45 and 32 yards in the victory. The Pioneers will be competing in the UIL Football Playoffs for the second straight year.

Lady Yellowjackets close volleyball season with win – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured a 25-18, 21-25, 25-21 and 25-13 four-set victory over Pasadena Memorial to close their season, Tuesday at the AHS Competition Gym. Alvin closes its season at 10-28 overall and 5-11 in 22-6A. Brooklyn Morris delivered a double double performance with 12 kills and 22 digs, while other match totals included Payton Ashley with 13 kills and three blocks, Karlie Dorsten with seven kills, Jatara Roland with 16 assists, Reece Shotwell with 15 assists, Camryn Mercer with 13 digs, Morgan Gassaway with nine assists and Joana Cach with three blocks.

Yellowjackets’ Football gives Dawson all it can handle in defeat – The Alvin Yellowjackets dropped a 58-35 decision to Dawson at the Rig in Pearland on Oct. 25 in 22-6A Football action. Samuel Fernandez sparked a 281-yard rushing attack by Alvin with 139 yards on 27 carries and four touchdowns. Quarterback Drew Bingham added 79 rushing yards on 14 carries and one TD. The Lady Sharks tuned up for the bi-district match by defeating Sam Rayburn in straight sets by 25-17, 25-7 and 25-15 in their regular season finale on Tuesday night. Match totals included Aspen Brown with 13 kills, Mackenzie Collins with eight kills and seven digs, Bella Law with 38 assists, four aces and seven digs, Tamarria Mitchell with 10 kills and Lauryn Wiley with 12 digs.

Sharks take sole possession of first place in 22-6A Football Race – The Shadow Creek Sharks took sole possession of first place in the 22-6A Football race by topping Pearland 41-28, Oct. 25 at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. Shadow Creek moved its record to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in district with the victory. Dante Mayes completed 11 of 14 passes for 114 yards and two TD’s, while the Sharks’ defense held Pearland to only a pair of first half first downs in taking a 20-6 lead to the locker room. Tristin Willis also broke loose for touchdown runs of 64 and 12 yards and Carter Stewart blocked an Oilers’ punt to set up another SC touchdown. Pioneers rally for 35-21 triumph over Marshall – The Iowa Colony Pioneers moved closer to clinching a playoff spot for the second straight season with a 35-21 come-from-behind triumph against Fort Bend Marshall, Oct. 26 in 9-5A Division 2 Football action at Hall Stadium in Missouri City. Iowa Colony moved its record to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in district with the victory. Quarterback Carson White completed 11 of 20 passes for 185 yards and three TD’s, while Eric Mosley added 118 yards on the ground and a 21-yard scoring run, which sealed the win. Jayden Warren also provided a 62-yard catch and run reception to give Iowa Colony the lead for the first time at 28-21 late in the fourth quarter. Jarvis Solomon intercepted a pair of Marshall passes and Adrian Porter Jr. delivered a team-leading 13 tackles. Iowa Colony next plays Terry at Rosenberg’s Traylor Stadium, Saturday at 11 a.m.

Keithley named to Texas HS Football Hall of Fame – Former Alvin High School Football great Gary Keithley was among nine prep legends who were named to the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame’s 2025 Class. Keithley (who was chosen in the 1969 and Before Category) guided Alvin to the 1968 Class 3A State Semifinals with the Yellowjackets going a program-best 12-1. Keithley passed for 1,789 yards and 21 touchdowns (both of which still school records at Alvin), while also scoring 15 touchdowns on the ground and averaging 42.5 yards as the team’s punter as well. Keithley went to play his collegiate ball at the University of Texas at El Paso, while also playing in the NFL with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Canadian Football League with the BC Lions. Induction ceremonies for the 2025 TXHSFB Hall of Fame class are scheduled for May 10 in Waco. Other inductees include Patrick Mahomes/Whitehouse HS (2010s), Robert Griffin III/Copperas Cove (2000s), Pat Thomas/Plano HS (1970s) and Jeff Traylor/Gilmer HS (Eddie Joseph Coach Category).

Yellowjackets’ Football drops 42-21 decision to Manvel – The Alvin Yellowjackets dropped a 42-21 decision to Manvel in 22-6A Football action, Oct. 18 at AISD Memorial Stadium. Quarterback Drew Bingham scored on a 1-yard keeper for Alvin’s first touchdown, while Bingham connected with Chuck Phillips for a 25-yard TD pass and Samuel Fernandez also scored on a 7-yard rushing TD. Lady Maverick Cross Country Duo advances to state – The Manvel High School Girls’ Cross Country duo of Danna Ramirez and Jannie Cardenas both earned state qualifying berths after solid performances at the Region III-6A Meet in Huntsville last weekend. Ramirez finished 18th with a time of 19:18.10, while Cardenas was 19th with a time of 19:18.70. Ramirez and Cardenas will next advance to the Class 6A State Meet, Nov. 1 in Round Rock.

Mavericks’ Football remains in contention for playoff spot – The Manvel Mavericks pulled away with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to defeat Alvin, 42-21 in 22-6A Football action, Oct. 18 at AISD Memorial Stadium in Alvin. Cam Renfro completed 13 of 16 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Mavs offensively, while Bruce Robinson blazed 67 yards with a blocked field goal touchdown return to give Manvel (4-4 overall, 4-2 in district) a 14-7 lead at halftime. The victory was highlighted by a banner 24-play, 99-yard drive, which was climaxed by Carlos Medina’s 1-yard touchdown run to close the first half. Former Yellowjacket Baseball Coach among 2025 THSBCA HOF Class – Former Alvin Yellowjackets’ Head Baseball Coach Mike Rogers was among four individuals who have been named to the 2025 Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame class. Rogers who ended his 40-year coaching career with exactly 800 victories, served as the Yellowjackets’ HBC from 2002-2013, guiding the team to the playoff seven times, which included a 33-7 record and regional semifinal appearance in 2008. Rogers picked up Career Win No. 500 with Alvin in 2012. Rogers will be the second THSBCA Hall inductee with Alvin connections with Nolan Ryan being named in 2021. Other coaching stops for Rogers included Buna, Port Arthur Jefferson, Jasper and Lake Travis where he coaching his final nine seasons before retiring in 2022.

The Pioneers jumped to a quick 21-0 first half lead on Carson White’s 9-yard QB keeper and pair of White scoring passes to Antoine Martin. Lee pulled within 21-14 late in the second quarter, but White’s 9-yard TD toss to Jayden Warren regained a two touchdown cushion at for IC at 28-14 at intermission and Iowa Colony then pulled away during the final 24 minutes. White connected with Ian Hill (27 yards) and Warren (30 yards) with TD passes, while Denim Barnes (35 yards) and Mikah Barnes (4 yards) added rushing scores. Sophomore Brayden Tuiasosopo shined in his varsity debut at quarterback, completing 13 of 15 passes for 145 yards and five touchdowns. Leading the way for the Lady Sharks (24-7 overall, 5-0) was Mckenzie Collins with 13 kills, Tamarria Mitchell and Aspen Brown with 11 kills apiece, Bella Law with 27 assists and 16 digs for a double double and Kelly Kelsick with 11 assists and 14 digs for a double double. Pioneers’ Football pull away from Elsik – The Iowa Colony Pioneers moved their record to 3-0 overall with a 47-14 home victory over Elsik in non-district football action, Sept. 13. The contest served as the final tune-up for the Pioneers as they play Baytown Lee in their 9-5A Division 2 opener, Friday at Baytown’s Stallworth Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Iowa Colony rolled to an early 28-0 first half lead behind Carson White’s TD passes of 76 and 39 yards to Antoine Martin. While Elsik pulled within 28-14 at the break, the Pioneers put the game away with 19 unanswered points during the second half. Andy Cruz booted a 29-yard field goal, while White threw another TD toss to Jayden Warren and also reached the end zone with a 9-yard QB keeper.

Iowa Colony Volleyball drops match to Santa Fe – The Iowa Colony Lady Pioneers dropped a 21-25, 17-25 and 21-25 straight set home decision to Santa Fe in 20-5A Volleyball action on Tuesday. Match totals for the Lady Pioneers included Taylor Bonner Williams with eight kills, Hannah Lane and Je`Dyn Parker with four kills each, Ashlyn Terry with 11 assists and 10 digs for a double double and Breia Dixon with 10 digs. Yellowjackets’ Football rolls to win over Dulles – The Alvin Yellowjackets rolled to a 21-0 victory over Dulles in non-district football action, Sept. 5 at Hall Stadium in Missouri City. Quarterback Drew Bingham rushed for 184 yards on 24 carries and one touchdown, while Sammy Fernandez added 117 yards on 23 carries and one TD and Keegan Moore added 99 yards on the ground. The Yellowjackets’ defense also came up with two big stops inside on their own territory early to keep the game scoreless until Bingham’s two-yard QB sneak in the opening period. Alvin (1-1 overall) next hosts Shadow Creek in the 22-6A opener for both teams, Friday at AISD Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.

Lady Yellowjackets’ Volleyball sweeps Sam Rayburn – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets moved their record to 2-2 in 22-6A volleyball play with a 25-18, 25-21 and 25-15 sweep over Sam Rayburn, Tuesday in Pasadena. Match totals for the Lady Yellowjackets included Payton Ashley with nine kills and five blocks, Brooklyn Morris with six kills and seven digs, Lauren Weber with five kills, Morgan Gassaway with seven digs and 12 assists and Reece Shotwell with 14 assists and five digs. Mavericks edged by Barbers Hill on the road– The Manvel Mavericks dropped a 21-13 decision to Barbers Hill in non-district football action on Sept. 6 in Mont Belvieu. Kenneth Malone-Hayes scored on a one-yard run and quarterback Jackson Hamilton threw a 21-yard TD pass to Antoine Wilder. The Mavericks were held to only 188 yards of total offense in the contest. Manvel (0-2 overall) next hosts Pasadena Memorial, Thursday in the 22-6A opener at AISD Freedom Field. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m.

Lady Mavericks sweep South Houston – The Manvel Lady Mavericks bounced back from a two-game losing streak to sweep South Houston by 25-12, 25-9 and 25-15 in 22-6A Volleyball action, Tuesday night. Sharks top Clear Creek for Green’s first HC win – The Shadow Creek Sharks dominated Clear Creek by a 34-7 count on Sept. 6 at AISD Freedom Field in non-district football action in Iowa Colony to give Tyrone Green his first ever victory in the head coaching ranks. Quarterback Joseph Stewart passed for 176 yards and three touchdowns with Chris Stewart hauling in a pair of scoring strikes and Rahim Hutchins catching the other TD toss. George Kirkland added 134 yards on the ground and a TD for the Sharks (1-1 overall), who next open 22-6A play by traveling to play Alvin, Friday at AISD Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.

Lady Sharks’ Volleyball outlasts Dawson in five-set thriller – The Shadow Creek Lady Sharks came away with a victory at Pearland Dawson in five sets by 28-30, 25-15, 25-23, 14-25 and 17-15 scores on Sept. 6. Pioneers’ Football blank Crosby 24-0 – The Iowa Colony Pioneers moved their record to 2-0 overall with a dominating 24-0 victory at Crosby in non-district football action, Sept. 6. Quarterback Carson White passed for 132 yards and threw TD passes of 75 and four yards to Jayden Warren and Jacody Miles also caught a 16-yard scoring toss in the contest. Andy Cruz opened up the scoring for the Pioneers with a 39-yard field goal. Jeremy Garner also intercepted a pair of passes and Adrian Porter delivered a team-leading 10 tackles. The Pioneers next host Elsik, Friday for Homecoming at Freedom Field at 7 p.m.

Yellowjackets’ Football suffers 41-6 defeat in opener – The Alvin Yellowjackets suffered a 41-6 defeat to Bastrop in the 2024 high school football opener for both teams, Aug. 30 in Alvin. After Bastrop struck for two touchdowns to lead 12-0 on the game’s two first drives, the Jackets drove 89 yards in 12 plays with quarterback Drew Bingham scoring from a yard out on a sneak to cut the margin to 12-6. However, the Bears struck for two more first half TD’s in the second period to take a 27-6 halftime advantage. Alvin next plays Dulles, Thursday at Hall Stadium in Missouri City at 7 p.m.

Mavericks fall to Ball High in Football opener – The Manvel Mavericks fell to Galveston Ball by a 54-26 count in the 2024 high school football opener for both teams, Aug. 30 in Iowa Colony. Ball High’s Jonah Williams scored five touchdowns to lead the way for the Tors. Manvel’s Antoine Wilder blazed to the end zone with an 82-yard kickoff return, while quarterback Cam Renfro hit Joshua Irvin with a five-yard scoring toss and Kenneth Malone Hayes scored on a one-yard rushing TD. The Mavs next play at Barbers Hill, Friday at 7 p.m.

English has big match in Lady Mavs’ tough defeat to Shadow Creek– Despite a match-high 26 kills by senior outside hitter Nevaeh English, the Manvel Lady Mavericks suffered a 17-25, 16-25, 25-15 and 23-25 four-set home defeat to Shadow Creek, Tuesday night. English also had three blocks, nine digs and three aces in the match, while other totals for Manvel included Kenedy Massie with 37 assists, Emerson Chang with 20 digs and Cynthia Daniels with five kills. Pioneers roll to 41-7 season opening football victory – The Iowa Colony Pioneers rolled to a 41-7 victory over Stafford in the 2024 high school football opener for both teams, Aug. 30 at Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. Quarterback Carson White rushed for TD’s of 1, 11 and 14 yards, while firing a 29-yard scoring strike to Jayden Warren. Eric Mosley also rushed for 125 yards and one TD and Hayden Caston scooped up a Stafford fumble and motored 33 yards for a defensive score. Iowa Colony Volleyball wins bronze bracket at tourney – The Iowa Colony Volleyball Girls won three of their five matches last weekend at the Bastrop Tournament to win the Bronze Bracket Championship. Coached by new head coach Tracy Klembus, the Lady Pioneers also opened the season last week by rallying from a two sets to none deficit to edge Alvin in a five-set thriller. The Lady Pioneers next compete at the Needville Tournament this weekend.
