Come learn and participate in the Game of Kings! Harby Chess is entering its 3rd year - and you can be part of a growing army - are you a pawn? Come learn to be a Knight or a Rook. Every level of player is welcome from I have never played to I play on Chess.com every day!

We have students who bring their own chess sets to school daily. We have students who play with our sets in the cafeteria before school, at lunch, and after school while they are waiting for the bus. Many of these students never attend the after-school club nor do they participate in UIL. 

We have the beginnings of a true chess culture here at Harby. I do not have to explain - but can in detail if you are interested - the importance of chess in brain development. But it is not our ‘GT’ kids or the top 10% - it is a cross-cultural and multiple intelligence experience. We are so excited to have the 6th grade join us this year.

Last year our all-Harby end-of-year tournament had 27 players from 7th and 8th grade. 

 At the 2022 JH tournament at Manvel JH  we had a substantial portion of the player population - about ¼ of the students there were from HARBY. In 2023, we won both 7th and 8th grade - Join us!
