District Programs

Alvin ISD is proud to sponsor innovative and exciting programs that allow for student, staff and community partnership.

When we say each student, every day we know that often means thinking outside of the classroom to meet students where they are. It also means providing educational opportunities for all kinds of learners, while supporting students' social and emotional needs.

Book Bus

In 2016, the district initiated a mobile library program called the Alvin ISD Book Bus to bring literacy and other learning opportunities directly to the neighborhoods of students and families who may not have easy access during the summer. Since its inception, the Alvin ISD Book Bus has become a year round resource to be out in the community.

The ASD Book Bus has become a symbol of the district's willingness to support, encourage, and empower our students, parents, staff, and community members to be more actively involved and invested in the success of every student in Alvin ISD.

STEM Bus

The Alvin ISD STEM Bus is a mobile classroom that brings engaging, innovative, and interactive STEM Education to AISD schools and the community.

The STEM Bus allows students to experience the STEM concepts they learn in the classroom through engaging and interacting stations. The Bus provides teachers with more than just a package of resources to use in the classroom.

A STEM Bus Internship was created for high school students interested in STEM subjects.

A total of thirty-two high school students were selected as STEM Bus interns the inaugural year . They were tasked with helping facilitate the STEM stations to their younger elementary and junior high peers as well as serve as ambassadors for the STEM Bus at state and region showcases.

YET Mentor and Student

YET Mentoring Program

YET (Youth Empowerment Team) is a school-based mentoring program in which dedicated parents and individuals from the community, businesses, and local organizations invest their time to empower Alvin ISD students to pursue the school and life goals that they have not achieved YET.

The mission is to pair students with mentors that will empower them to persevere to achieve their dreams and goals by instilling in them an “I Can” or “I Will” mindset to face their school and life’s challenges.

WINGS, MAP, and STEM Academies

The WINGS Academy serves students in the first through fifth grade.

The make-up of the multi-age classes allows learning with intellectual peers through a curriculum specifically designed for these gifted learners. The program is unique in that each child has an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that appropriately challenges each student’s abilities allowing her/him to engage in the curricular consistent with the student’s knowledge, skills, and personal motivations.

The Alvin ISD STEM Academy meets the academic needs of our highly gifted 6-8 grade junior high school students through science, technology, engineering, and math. The focus is on problem-solving, discovery, creativity, exploratory learning through teamwork, and perfecting leadership and communication skills while providing depth and complexity to meet their cognitive and social/emotional needs.

Alvin's Magnet Academic Program (MAP) can be found in each of the eight junior high school campuses. The MAP Math/Science program pathway provides acceleration in Mathematics (8th grade math for sixth grade, Algebra I in seventh grade, and Geometry in eighth grade) and acceleration in Science whereas students complete 8th grade Science at the end of their seventh grade year. The Humanities pathway offers an integrated study of Language Arts and Social Studies for MAP Humanities students. The depth and complexity in these courses provides the level of rigor needed for our students to be successful in advanced secondary coursework. In addition, the program focuses on creative perpetual learners and nurtures individual abilities and talents. All fifth-grade students are considered for acceptance into the MAP program. Placement in MAP may occur for one or both pathways of the program.

READy Program

The goal of the READy Program is to engage and empower families in preparation for kindergarten and beyond. The curriculum emphasizes language development and introduction of early literacy skills. Parents review concepts and strategies with the instructor to expose their children to early literacy skills such as: book knowledge, letter recognition, phonological and phonemic awareness, and early writing skills.
