Ticket Information

The Alvin ISD Athletic Dept. is providing online ticketing to purchase tickets for all of the Alvin ISD athletic events at the high school and junior high level.  Each junior high school is listed under their feeder pattern high school link.  Online tickets for varsity football games may be purchased at pre-sale prices until midnight the day before the game.  Ticket sales will resume at 4:00 p.m. the day of the game.  A QR Code will be available at all ticket gates to purchase tickets at the door.

State Track Champions

Congrats to the Iowa Colony High School Boys & Girls Track Teams for making History be winning the First State Team Championships! Both teams are the State UIL 4A Track & Field Champions! The Girls Track Team are "Out Right" Champions and the Boys Track Team are Co-Champions with Gilmer HS! Congrats to all of the student-athletes, trainers, managers and Coaches that helped bring Home the Championships! Congrats to the Shadow Creek HS Girls Track Team for earning the State UIL 6A State Track & Field Runner-Up! Congrats to all of the student-athletes, trainers, managers and Coaches that helped secure their finish at the State Meet in Austin!

Congrats to the Alvin HS Lady Jackets Softball Team for their victory over Deer Park HS in the Area Championship! The Lady Jackets will play Kingwood HS in a Best-of-Three series in the Regional Quarter-Finals round of the playoffs! NFL Bound

Congrats to former Manvel HS student-athlete, Layden Robinson on being drafted by the New England Patriots as the 103rd overall pick in Round Four! Layden graduated from MHS in 2019 and continued his playing career for the Fighting Texas Aggies Football Team!

State Track

Congrats to the Manvel HS Boys & Girls Track teams for qualifying student-athletes to the 5A State Track Meet! The State Track Meet will be held on Friday, 5/3/24 at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium in Austin! Lady Jackets’ Softball wins Game 1 of Bi-District Playoff Series – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured a 7-3 victory over Clear Brook in Game One of the Best of Three Class 6A Bi-District Softball Playoff Series, Thursday in Friendswood. Moving their record to 26-4, the Lady Yellowjackets were led by Braelyn Love’s four RBI’s with Love clearing the bases with a first-inning double. Marlee VanNess and Abby Ptak also drove in a run apiece and Matti Matthews picked up the pitching win in the circle. The Lady Jackets next host Clear Brook in game two, Friday night in Alvin at 6:30 p.m. A third game (if necessary) would be played Saturday in Santa Fe at 6:30 p.m.

Manvel Maverick Report

Mavericks have five qualify for state 5A track meet – The Manvel Mavericks had a total of five individuals turn in state qualifying performances at the Region III-5A track meet last weekend. Christian James qualified for state with a second place in the boys’ 800 meters, as did the girls’ 4X400 foursome of Jasmyn Johnson, Aubrey Riles, Naomi Johnson and Kymia Woodard with a third place finish.

Shadow Creek Girls win Region III-6A track crown – The Shadow Creek Lady Sharks captured the Region III-6A Track crown last weekend and also had several individuals earn state berths. State qualifiers included Lailah Hudson, Mackenzie Collins, Madison Thurmond and Tiffany Mugubi in the 4X100 relay; Mckenzie Roberson, Teryn Green, Skylar Moody and Amai Newman in the 4X 200 relay;  Mugubi in the 800 meters; Hudson, Collins, Roberson and Moody in the 4X100 relay; Collins in the 300 hurdles; and Hudson in the 300 hurdles.

Iowa Colony Pioneer Report

Iowa Colony Baseball clinches playoff berth – The Iowa Colony Pioneers captured an 11-4 victory over Columbia in 26-4A Baseball action, Tuesday in West Columbia. Carson White drove in three runs in the contest with the freshman’s two-run homer sparking a six-run outburst in the fifth inning, which secured the victory. White also delivered an RBI triple in the contest, while Cayden Aguilera provided a two-run single. Moving their record to 19-8 overall and 7-4 in district, the Pioneers next host Sweeny, Friday at 7 p.m.

Iowa Colony track sweeps Region 4-4A titles – The Iowa Colony Boys and Girls’ Track teams blazed their way to the Region 4-4A Championships last weekend with several individuals also earning state berths. Top performances included Greg Guidry, Ian Hill, Xavier Bellard and Jeremy Garner with a first place in the boys’ 4X400 relay; Derrick Hahn, Jayden Warren, Guidry and Antoine Martin with a first place in the 4X100 relay; Hill with a first place in the boys’ 800 meters; Warren with a first place in both the boys’ 100 and 200 meters; Hahn, Bellard, Baijon Dupaty and Garner with a first place in the 4X200 relay; Ashtyn Lewis with a first place in the girls’ 100; Adrianna Murry, Arius Williams, Bailee Wilturner and Lewis with a first place in the girls’ 4X400 relay; Cam Jones, Wilturner, Aysha Mitchell and Williams with a second place in the girls’ 4X200 relay and Williams, Mitchell, Hannah Young and Murry with a second place in the 4X100 relay.

Lady Jackets defeat Alief Hastings – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured a 15-0 victory at Alief Hastings, Tuesday night in 23-6A Softball action. Angelina Rector drilled a bases-clearing triple during a 10-run inning and Abby Ptak went deep with a three-run homer over the center field fence. Matti Matthews and Braelyn Love drove in two runs apiece for the Lady Jackets during the second inning. Alvin moved its record to 25-4 overall and 9-2 in district. The playoff bound Lady Jackets next host Dawson, Friday night at 6:45 p.m.

Alvin Baseball wins fifth straight – The Alvin Yellowjackets rolled to a 18-0 home triumph over Alief Hastings to pick up their fifth straight victory. Alvin (10-15-1 overall, 8-3) opened up the floodgates to blow open a tight 1-0 contest with eight runs in the third inning and nine runs in the fourth. Grayson Marek went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI’s, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Aiden Zamora and winning pitcher Cooper Williams also drove in a pair of runs. The Jackets next resume their series with Hastings, Friday in Alief at 6 p.m.

Lady Mavericks drop 2-1 decision to Friendswood – The Manvel Lady Mavericks dropped a narrow 2-1 at Friendswood in 18-5A Softball action, Tuesday night. Skylar Frederick belted a solo home run to center field in the top of the second inning to give Manvel (20-9-1 overall, 8-3) an early lead, before the Lady Mustangs rallied for two runs in the fifth. Now tied with second place in the district with Friendswood, the playoff bound Lady Mavs next host Santa Fe, Friday at 6:30 p.m. to wrap up regular season play.

Shadow Creek Baseball tops Taylor – The Shadow Creek Sharks topped Alief Taylor by a 15-0 count in 23-6A Baseball action, Tuesday in Pearland. Demari Faggins scored from third base on a wild pitch and Kam Scott singled home a run to give the Sharks their first two tallies in the first inning, while Lubin Rincon drove in a pair of runs in the second with a double for a 4-0 lead. Blaine Brown then helped blow the game open by tripling in two runs in the third and belting a grand slam home run to right field in the four inning. Shadow Creek resumes its series with Taylor, Friday in Alief at 6 p.m.

Iowa Colony Pioneer Report

Iowa Colony Baseball edges Stafford in extra innings – The Iowa Colony Pioneers edged Stafford by a 3-2 count in eight innings in 26-4A Baseball action, Tuesday in Stafford. Landon Brown picked up the pitching win in relief, while Matthew Christopoulos also turned in a quality start on the mound. Jayden Felder drove in a pair of runs for the Pioneers (18-8 overall, 6-4) and Jonny Trevino also contributed an RBI. Iowa Colony next plays at Columbia, April 23 at 7 p.m.

Lady Pioneers cruise to victory over Stafford – Iowa Colony Softball cruised to a 20-0 victory over Stafford, Tuesday in 26-4A Softball action. Kayleigh Mckean went 2-for-4 with four RBI’s, while Sophia Vasquez was 2-for-3 with three RBI’s and Leila Macias and Amoree Serna chipped in two RBI’s apiece. The Lady Pioneers made great strides in their second season of varsity play, improving to 9-19 overall and 5-7 in district play.

Lady Jackets top Shadow Creek – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured a 12-0 victory over Shadow Creek in 23-6A Softball action, Wednesday night in Alvin. The Lady Jackets moved their record to 23-4-1 with the win. Jocelyn Briseno, who was named KPRC2’s UTMB Athlete of the Week, drove in four runs in the contest, while Abby Ptak drilled a two-run triple and Marlee VanNess added an RBI double. The Lady Jackets next play at Alief Elsik, Friday at 6:45 p.m.

Alvin Baseball rolls to 8-1 triumph – The Alvin Yellowjackets rolled to an 8-1 triumph over Elsik in 23-6A Baseball action, Tuesday at Nolan Ryan Field. Alvin moved its record to 8-15-1 with its third straight win and 6-3 in district play. Peyton Kitchens went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI’s, while Easton and Caden Burgess joined Ethan Tyler with an RBI apiece. Easton Burgess also combined with Bane Watson for a two-hit shutout on the mound. The Jackets resume their series with the Rams, Friday in Alief at 6 p.m.

Lady Mavericks blank Galveston Ball – The Manvel Lady Mavericks blanked Galveston Ball by a 7-0 count in 18-5A Softball action, Tuesday on the Island. Skylar Frederick went deep with a solo home run, while Carley Williams and Jaylie Miller belted back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning. Ryley Nihart also delivering a dominating performance in the pitching circle, striking out 12 and only allowing one hit in a complete game. Moving their record to 7-2 in district, the Lady Mavs next host Angleton, Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Mavericks keep playoff hopes alive – The Manvel Mavericks kept their playoff hopes alive in the 18-5A Baseball race with a 6-2 home victory over Santa Fe, Wednesday night. Cristian Lara went 3-for-3 with a run scored an RBI in the contest, while Jared Camargo also drove in a run in the contest to back winning pitcher Stephen Lewis and reliever Manny Ramirez on the mound. The Mavs next play at Santa Fe, Friday at 6 p.m.

Shadow Creek Shark Report

SC runners earn regional track berths– Shadow Creek track delivered several regional qualifying performances at the area track meet last weekend. Mackenzie Collins earned gold medals in the 300 meter hurdles, 4X100 and 4X400 relays, while Kyndall Drones qualified with gold medals in both the shot put and discus. Other regional qualifiers included Amai Newman in the 200 meters, Madyson Thurman in the 400 meters, Bria Degray in the 110 meter hurdles, Tiffany Mugubi in the 800 meters, Timothy Rhine in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, Daijah Miller in the triple jump and Kendon Jones in the high jump.

Iowa Colony Track shines at regionals – The Iowa Colony Pioneers turned in several outstanding performances at the area track meet to earn regional qualifying berths. Lady Mavericks turn a triple play in victory at Texas City – The Manvel Lady Mavericks got a stellar pitching performance from ace Rylie Nihart and edged Texas City by a 4-3 count in 18-5A Softball action, March 29 in Texas City. Jaylie Miller belted a two-run homer and drove in three runs in the contest, while the Manvel infield also turned a game-changing triple play in the fifth inning. Shortstop Carley Williams snared a Texas City line drive, throwing to second baseman Chloe Ramirez for a double play and Ramirez then fired a relay home to catcher Jaylie Miller, who tagged out the Lady Stings’ runner to complete the spectacular triple play feat. Landon Brown drove in a pair of runs with one coming on a two-out solo home run in the fourth inning, while Jeremiah Brown also knocked in a run with an RBI single. Lady Jackets edge Dawson – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured a 2-0 victory over Dawson in 23-6A Softball action, Tuesday in Pearland. Alvin moved its record to 21-3 overall and 5-1 in district with the victory. Matti Matthews picked up the win for Alvin in the pitching circle with the senior striking out 13 and allowing only four hits. Yellowjackets’ Baseball falls to Pearland – The Alvin Yellowjackets suffered a 7-1 defeat to state ranked Pearland in 23-6A Baseball action, Tuesday at Nolan Ryan Field in Alvin. Lewis leads Mavs over Angleton – Senior ace Stephen Lewis struck out 10 with a complete game performance and scattered six hits in leading the Manvel Mavericks to a 3-2 victory over Angleton in 18-5A Baseball action, Tuesday in Manvel. Iowa Colony Soccer teams split bi-district playoff openers – Iowa Colony captured a 2-1 victory over El Campo in the Class 4A Boys Bi-District Soccer Playoffs, Tuesday at Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. The win was the first ever for the Pioneers (10-8-6) and advances them into the area round, Thursday at Bryan’s Merrill Green Stadium against La Vega at 6 p.m. Isaias Rodriguez scored the first Iowa Colony goal on a header, while Andy Cruz later stole a pass intended for the El Campo keeper and pierced the net with the Pioneers’ second goal. The Iowa Colony girls were also in 4A Bi-District Playoff action at Freedom Field on Tuesday against El Campo and dropped a narrow 4-3 contest to the Lady Ricebirds. Valeria Sanchez scored twice for the Lady Pioneers, who had finished as the third seed from 26-4A.

Caton named MVP in 18-5A – Senior Center Kade Caton was named the most valuable player to highlight the Manvel Mavericks’ selections to the All-District 18-5A Boys’ Basketball team. Caton, who was also named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Association’s All-Region 3-5A Team, was joined on the 18-5A first team for the bi-district finalist Mavs by senior guard Forrest Mills and sophomore Byron Green, while the trio Kingston Eckermann, DeJon Haller and Ifeany Okoro made the honorable mention list.

Postseason honors keep rolling in for IC Hoop teams – The postseason honors keep rolling in for Iowa Colony Basketball with both varsity squads making historic deep runs in the playoffs this season. Guard B.J. Gill was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 4A All-State Boys’ Team and joined Pioneers’ teammate Robert Greene as a All-Region IV-4A Selection as well. Iowa Colony advanced to the regional finals in their just second year on the varsity level. Eryn Roberts was also named to the All-Region IV-4A team on the girls’ side for Iowa Colony, who won their first district championship (joining the IC boys in that regard) and their first playoff contest in the bi-district round.

Lady Yellowjackets drop heartbreaker to Pearland  – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets dropped a 6-5 heartbreaker to defending state champion Pearland in 23-6A Softball action, Tuesday night. The Lady Jackets (16-3) took a 5-2 lead into the top of the seventh inning, but the Lady Oilers rallied for four runs to take the upper hand. Kiley Huffman belted a 2-run inside the park home run and drove in three runs for Alvin, while Matti Matthews provided three hits and drove in a run with a run-scoring double. AHS Track competes at Texas City Relays – The Alvin High School Track teams competed at the 409 Texas City Relays on Thursday. Top finishes for Alvin included Abby Ptak with a second place in the shot put, Rubi Armas with a second place in the girls’ 800-meter run, the Alvin boys with a second place in the 4X400 relay, Dartagnan Fletcher with a third place in the boys’ 800 meters and Eisha Lara with a third place in the girls’ 3200.

Manvel Baseball rolls to 12-2 win – The Manvel Mavericks’ Baseball team rolled to a 12-2 home non-district win over Houston Westside, Tuesday night. Stephen Lewis struck out 10 on the mound and helped his own cause with a bases-clearing double. Jared Camargo and Rudy Mendieta both drove in a pair of runs, while Cristian Lara joined Manny Ramirez, Gabe Roberts and Mitchell Norton with an RBI apiece. The Mavs (5-3-3) next compete at the Fort Bend Tournament and then host Clear Lake on March 13 at 1:30 p.m.

Fields named Defensive Player of Year in 18-5A – Akyla Fields was named the defensive player of the year in 18-5A to highlight the Manvel Lady Mavericks’ league leading eight all-district basketball selections. Fields was joined on the first team by Peyton Cooks, Jaylynn Chatman and Jacqueline Oba, while Khloe Yarborough and Taylor Younger were second team picks and Madison Weary made the honorable mention list. The Lady Mavs went an impressive 31-7 and won the 18-5A crown with a perfect 12-0 mark, posting playoff wins over Goose Creek Memorial (58-50) and Willowridge (44-22).

Sharks’ Collins named MVP in 23-6A – Shadow Creek Sharks’ guard Michael Collins was named the most valuable player in 23-6A to highlight the area finalist Sharks’ all-district hoop selections. Collins was joined on the first team by defensive player of the year recipient Kaden Tate, Julian Cullier, second team picks Adin Lewis and Ashton Jones. Shadow Creek went 30-3 overall, won the 23-6A title with a perfect 14-0 mark and defeated Clear Creek in the bi-district playoffs.

Pioneers’ historic season ends in Region Finals – The 26-4A Champion Iowa Colony Boys’ historic season came to a heartbreaking close with a 71-64 overtime defeat to Stafford in the Class 4A Region IV Boys’ Basketball Finals, Saturday in Kingsville. B.J. Gill paced the Pioneers with a game-high 32 points. Iowa Colony had advanced to the finals with a 53-41 semifinal victory over Somerset on Friday. The Pioneers exploded for a 19-4 fourth quarter run to rally for the victory. R.J. Greene paced the Pioneers in the win with 23 points, while Rodney Carter and Gill added 10 points apiece. The Pioneers closed the season with a 25-14 overall record and a 11-1 league mark. Iowa Colony also posted playoff triumphs over Wharton (86.42), Davenport (71-45) and Sweeny (93-58).

Congrats to the Iowa Colony HS Pioneers Basketball team for clinching the Regional Quarter-Finals Championship over Sweeny HS! Alvin Powerlifting Girls place second at Region meet  – The Alvin High School Powerlifting Girls finished in second place at the Region meet, Feb. 24 in Alvin with five girls qualifying for the state meet, March 13 in Frisco. Maya Ruiz won the 259+ Class to earn a state berth for the third straight year, while Nathaly Ramirez (165 Class) and Valeria Rangel (148 Class) both finished second in their respective classes and will be going to state for the second straight year and Courtney Kimble (second place, 242 Class) and Alondra Acuna (fourth place, 198 Class) earned state berths as well. Other top finishes for Alvin at regionals featured Cristal Macias with a third place in the 181 Class, Rubi Navarrette with a fourth place in the 132 Class and Charlotte Sutton with a fifth place in the 123 Class.

Lady Yellowjackets ranked fifth in TGCA State Softball Poll – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets are ranked fifth in the state in Class 6A with the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association releasing their weekly softball rankings on Feb. 26. After winning the NFCA Texas High School Leadoff Classic the previous weekend, the Lady Yellowjackets captured five of six games at the Summer Creek Tournament on Feb. 22-24 with victories over Kingwood (3-2), Dayton (6-5), two-time defending state 5A champion Lake Creek (2-1), Atascocita (6-4) and Klein Collins (4-2). The Lady Yellowjackets next compete at the LCISD Tourney this weekend.

Pioneers advance to region tournament for first time in school history – The 26-4A Champion Iowa Colony Boys will be traveling to Texas A&M Kingsville University for a first ever school history trip to the Class 4A Region 4 Boys’ Basketball Tournament after cruising to a 93-58 Regional Quarterfinals victory over Sweeny, Tuesday at Brazoswood High School in Clute. Moving their record to 23-14 for the season, the Pioneers play Somerset in the semifinals, Friday at 8 p.m. with the winner moving on to meet the Bishop/Stafford winner in the regional finals, Saturday at 3 p.m. Iowa Colony exploded for a 26-6 first quarter start against Sweeny and never looked back, increasing their lead to 40-16 at intermission. RJ Greene paced the Pioneers in Tuesday’s third round triumph with 23 points, while B.J. Gill added 19 points and Rodney Carter delivered a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Taylor, Stewart named to TSWA All–State squad – Shadow Creek Sharks’ defensive end Zion Taylor and receiver Chris Stewart were both named to the Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters Association’s Class 6A All-State Football team recently. Taylor was a third-team pick on the defensive line, while Stewart made the honorable mention list. Shadow Creek finished their season at 9-2 overall and was the runner-up playoff seed out of 23-6A.

Pioneers roll in 4A Bi-District Playoffs – The 26-4A Champion Iowa Colony Boys rolled to a 86-42 triumph over Wharton in the Class 4A Boys’ Bi-District Basketball Playoffs, Monday at Rosenberg Terry High School. The 18-14 Pioneers now advance to play Davenport in the area round, Friday at Columbus HS with a 7 p.m. tip-off. While trailing 9-5 early to Wharton, Iowa Colony scored the final 11 of 13 points in the opening stanza and never looked back, increasing their lead to 40-26 at intermission. Robert Greene paced Iowa Colony with 21 points, while Gill added 16 points and six steals and Daylon Dalcour (11 points, 13 rebounds) and Rodney Carter (10 points, 10 rebounds) each delivered double double performances.

Lady Mavericks edge GCM in bi-district hoops – The 18-5A Champion Manvel Lady Mavericks opened postseason play with a 58-50 victory over Goose Creek Memorial in the Class 5A Bi-District playoffs, Feb. 12 at South Houston High School. The victory advances the Lady Mavs (30-6) into an area round meeting with Willowridge, Friday at Hopson Field House at 6 p.m. Leading scorers for the Manvel girls against GCM included Peyton Cooks with 16 points, Akyla Fields with 12 points and Jaylynn Chatman with 10 points. On the boys’ side, Manvel will compete in the bi-district round next week against either Barbers Hill or Port Arthur Memorial.

Three Mavericks named to TSWA All-State 5A Football team  – A total of three Manvel Mavericks were named to the Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters Association’s Class 5A All-State Football Team. 10-5A Division I Co-MVP and University of Memphis Jalen Charles earned a first team nod on the defensive line, while Rice University signee Kaleb Blanton was also a first team selection at linebacker and University of Oregon signee Kade Caton gained a third team nod at tight end. Charles, who delivered 14 sacks during the season, was also a finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club’s defensive player of the year award.

Shadow Creek Basketball Girls capture bi-district and area victories –The Shadow Creek Varsity Girls’ Basketball team has opened the Class 6A Girls’ Playoffs with a pair of victories. The Lady Sharks rolled to a 57-44 bi-district triumph over Clear Brook, Feb. 13 at South Houston High School. Da`niyah Lewis led the way with 21 points. The Shadow Creek Girls then faced Atascocita in the area round and came away with a 44-36 victory, Feb. 15 in La Porte. Lewis pumped in 13 points and Gianna Gentry added 10 points for the 23-12 Lady Sharks who face the Summer Creek/Dawson winner in the regional quarterfinals next week. The 23-6A Champion Shadow Creek Boys (30-2 overall) finished district with a perfect 13-0 mark in district and will play Clear Creek in the bi-district playoffs, Feb. 19 at Alvin High School at 6 p.m.

Green named Sharks’ new head football coach – Tyrone Green was approved as the new head football coach at Shadow Creek High School during the Alvin ISD’s regular board meeting on Feb. 13. Green, who becomes the second head football coach in the school’s history, served on Brad Butler’s coaching staff since the school’s opening in 2016. Previous coaching stops for the former University of Houston player include five and seven-year stints with Houston Lamar sandwiched between a one-year stop at Manvel High School.

The Lady Pioneers jumped to a 22-3 first quarter lead and never looked back to move their record to 26-8 for the season. Four Pioneers named to TSWA All-State 4A Football Team – After advancing to playoffs for the first time in school history, the regional semifinalist Iowa Colony Pioneers also made history with their first ever multi player all-state selections with four players being named to the Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters’ Association’s Class 4A All-State Football Team. The 26-4A Champion Lady Pioneers are fresh off winning their first district title in school history and will face Bellville in the Class 4A Bi-district playoffs, Tuesday at Morton Ranch HS in Katy at 6 p.m. The Lady Pioneers enter the contest with a 25-8 overall record and 12-0 in district. On the boys’ side, Iowa Colony took sole possession of first place with a 54-48 triumph over Stafford last weekend. B.J. Gill led the way with 26 points and eight steals.  Realignment places Yellowjackets in new 22-6A lineup  – The UIL Realignment on Thursday moved Alvin High School and AISD Neighbors Manvel and Shadow Creek high schools from 23-6A along with Pearland Dawson and Pearland High into 22-6A with Pasadena ISD Schools Dobie, Memorial, Rayburn and South Houston. The same format is for football and other UIL team sports. This marks the first time three AISD Schools will be aligned in the same district. UIL Realignment elevates Pioneers to Class 5A – Iowa Colony opens the 2024-25 school year competing at the Class 5A level for the first time ever after the UIL Realignment elevated the Pioneers from Class 4A (12-4A D-1 for football and 26-4A for other team sports) to Class 5A, starting next fall. Iowa Colony will compete in 9-5A D-2 in football with Baytown Lee, Fort Bend Marshall, Fort Bend Randle, Lamar Consolidated, Terry, Santa Fe and Texas City with Stafford, Crosby and Elsik for non-district foes. For other team sports, IC competes in 20-5A with Angleton, Friendswood, Galveston Ball, La Porte, Santa Fe and Texas City.

  

Yellowjacket powerlifting girls win Santa Fe meet  – The Alvin High School Powerlifting Girls won their second meet of the season in Santa Fe on Jan. 17. Meet highlights included Maya Ruiz setting a school records in the 242+ Class with a 230-pound bench press, 405-pound deadlift and a 1,100 overall total. Maylen Portano also won the 220 pound weight class as did Ruiz in the 242+ class, Jaylynn Hardy in the 148 class, Valeria Rangel in the 148 class and Nathaly Ramirez in the 165 class. Butler announces retirement from high school football coaching ranks – Shadow Creek Head Football Coach Brad Butler announced his retirement from the Texas HS coaching ranks earlier this week. Coaching the Sharks since the school opened in 2016, Butler compiled an impressive 66-11 overall record, which included a state championship in 2019 and a state finalist appearance in 2018. The Sharks advanced to the playoffs in all six of Butler’s six varsity seasons at the helm. The Brownwood HS graduate was also a two-time Texas Sportswriters Association All-State Coach of the Year along with receiving All-Greater Houston Area COY honors from the Houston Touchdown Club and the Houston Chronicle. Shadow Creek defeated Denton Ryan 28-22 to win the 2019 Class 5A Division I State Championship in Arlington.

Shadow Creek hoops sweeps Taylor –The Shadow Creek Varsity Basketball teams swept Alief Taylor in 23-6A action on Wednesday. The Sharks captured a 51-39 home decision on Wednesday to remain atop the district standings at 6-0 and 22-2 overall. The SC boys next play at Strake Jesuit, Friday at 7 p.m. The Lady Sharks also remained in solid playoff seed standing with a 62-58 triumph over Taylor, Wednesday in Alief. Iowa Colony hoop squads capture wins over Columbia – Both Iowa Colony Basketball squads rolled to victories over Columbia on Wednesday. The Lady Pioneers cruised to a 61-26 home victory over Columbia to improve to a league leading 7-0 in 26-4A and 22-8 overall. The Iowa Colony girls next play at Sweeny, Friday at 6:30 p.m. The IC boys rebounded from their first district loss a week earlier to Stafford to top Columbia by a 87-42 count on the road to move their record to 4-1 in district and 13-14 overall. Kincaide’s career high 32 sparks Lady Yellowjackets – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured a 60-18 non-district basketball triumph at Dayton on Jan. 2 behind Maddy Kincaide’s career high 32 points. Kendall Jackson also scored in double figures with 16 points and Hayden Holloway chipped in 12 points. The Lady Jackets next play at Shadow Creek, Tuesday night at 7 p.m. In boys’ basketball action for Alvin High School, guard Elijah Mckinzy was also named to the All-Tournament team at the Brazosport ISD Classic, Dec. 27-29 with Alvin going 2-2 and finishing fourth overall.

Singleton named to TSWA All-State Volleyball team – Alvin Lady Yellowjackets’ senior middle blocker Wylie Singleton was named to the 2023 Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters’ Third team in Class 6A. The third team selection was the second in a row for Singleton, who also received third team honors at MB as a junior in 2022. Singleton collected a team-high 317 kills along with 178 digs, 86 blocks and 53 aces for the bi-district finalist Lady Jackets.

Olszewski shines again on gridiron for New York Giants – Former Alvin High School Football stand-out Gunner Olszewski delivered another big play on the gridiron, this time for the New York Giants with a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown in Giants’ game with the Los Angeles Rams, Dec. 31 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The touchdown was the third in his career for Olszewski earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week and a player of the week honor in Sports Illustrated Peter King’s “Football Morning in America” column.

Lady Mavs come up with big wins – The state ranked Manvel Lady Mavericks came up with a pair of big wins last week. The Lady Mavs topped 6A Cinco Ranch by a 57-42 count at home on Jan. 2 behind Peyton Cooks’ 22 points, 11 points by Akyla Fields and nine rebounds by Jackie Oba. Angeles, Massie received more postseason honors – The Manvel Lady Mavericks’ duo of libero Bea Angeles and setter Kenedy Massie received more postseason honors last week. Angeles was named to the 2023 Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters Association’s Class 5A All-State Third team and joined Massie on the Houston Chronicle’s All-Greater Houston Area VB Second team. Angeles delivered 566 digs along with 82 assists and 63 aces for the regional quarterfinalist Lady Mavs, while Massie dished out 1,066 assists, 345 digs, 188 kills and 68 aces.

Robinson makes TSWA All-State squad – Shadow Creek setter Simone Robinson was named to the 2023 Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters Association’s Class 6A Honorable Mention list. Robinson tallied 1,047 assists along with 385 digs, 100 kills and 36 blocks for the bi-district finalist Lady Sharks.

Iowa Colony hoop squads capture wins over Brazosport – Both Iowa Colony Basketball squads remained unbeaten in their respective 26-4A standings with league victories over Brazosport on Jan. 5. The state-ranked Pioneers rolled to a 91-48 home victory behind 12 points each by R.J. Greene and Leon Gravesande and 10 points each from Chase Wiley and Aundre Amboree. The IC Boys improved to 3-0 in district and 12-13 overall and next play at Stafford on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in battle of state-ranked teams. The Iowa Colony Girls travelled to Freeport to face Brazosport on Jan. 5 and came away with a 40-32 victory to take sole possession of first place in 26-4A. Mavericks’ hoops fall to Cy Woods – The Manvel Mavericks suffered a 41-32 home defeat to Cy Woods in non-district boys’ basketball action, Tuesday in Manvel. Sophomore Byron Green paced the Mavericks with 10 points. The Mavs overcame a 10-point deficit to take the upper hand at 31-30 early in the fourth quarter, before Woods outscored Manvel 11-1 the rest of the way. Angeles, Massie received TGCA All-State honors – A pair of Manvel Lady Mavericks received Class 5A All-State honors from the Texas Girls Coaches Association. Senior libero Bea Angeles made the TGCA’s All-State Academic list, while junior setter Kenedy Massie was named to the TGCA’s All-State team for her performance on the court. Both players also earned individual accolades in the 18-5A All-District selections with Massie being named the district’s setter of the year for the second straight season and Angeles getting the defensive player of the year award.

Sharks capture Cy Hoops Invitational title – The Shadow Creek Sharks delivered a perfect 4-0 performance last weekend to win the Houston Methodist Cy Hoops Invitational Boys’ Tourney Championship. The Sharks (14-2) edged Cy Falls, 40-32 for the tournament title and Michael Collins was named the tourney’s most valuable player. Other victories for the Sharks at the tournament came against Jersey Village (90-38), Bridgeland (69-58) and Cy Springs (56-46). Shadow Creek next hosts Lufkin on Dec. 15.

Lady Pioneers collect 41-31 victory over Sweeny – The Iowa Colony Lady Pioneers moved their record to 2-0 in the 26-4A Girls’ Basketball standings with a 41-31 home victory over Sweeny, Tuesday night. The Lady Pioneers (12-6) jumped to a 11-2 lead after one period and never relinquished the lead despite the Lady Bulldogs cutting the lead to 18-14 game at halftime. Yellowjackets’ Football earn 10 all-state academic nods  – A total of 10 Alvin High School Football student athletes were named to the Texas High School Coaches Association’s All-State Academic team. Sharks’ Basketball tops Houston Christian– Moving their record to an impressive 10-2 for the season, the Shadow Creek Sharks rolled to a 74-58 home victory over Houston Christian in boys’ non-district basketball action, Tuesday in Pearland. Four straight points by Anthony Williams helped Shadow Creek take a 53-46 lead into the final period and the Sharks put the game away a few minutes later with a decisive 14-0 run. Pioneers’ Football dominates All-12-4A picks – After advancing to the regional semifinals in just their second year as a varsity squad, Iowa Colony also dominated the All-District 12-4A Football selections. Head Coach Ray Garza and his staff were recognized as the district’s top coaching staff with the 12-1 Pioneers winning the district championship and then posting playoff victories over Houston Furr (37-0) and Lindale. Iowa Colony came with several other hardware in the award department as well with outside linebacker Hayden Caston earning defensive MVP honors, Chris Johnson being recognized as the district’s top linemen, running back Jacody Miles receiving the utility player of the year award and quarterback Carson White being tabbed as the newcomer of the year. Pioneers’ banner season ends in regional semifinals – The banner season for the Iowa Colony Pioneers came to an end in the Class 4A Division I Regional Football Semifinals by a 42-21 count to Chapel Hill, Nov. 24 at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah. Iowa Colony closes it season at 12-1, winning the 12-4A District Championship and posting playoff victories over both Houston Furr (37-0) and Lindale (45-22). Quarterback Carson White threw touchdown passes to Jayden Warren (53 yards) and Antoine Martin Jr, while Hayden Caston raced 10 yards with a blocked punt recovery for a special teams’ TD.

Lady Pioneers shine in all-district volleyball selections – Making the playoffs for the first time ever in school history, the bi-district finalist Iowa Colony Lady Pioneers landed 11 players on the All-District 26-4A Volleyball team. Taylor Bonner-Williams shared the MVP award with Sweeny’s Shaylee Robinson, while Reese Shotwell was named the setter of the year and Allison Salas was tabbed as the district’s newcomer of the year. Alvin Boys’ Basketball splits first two games to open season – The Alvin Yellowjackets split their first two games to open the 2023-2024 Boys’ Basketball season. The Yellowjackets opened by topping Brookshire Royal by a 50-41 count on the road, Nov. 10. High scorers for Alvin included Jacob Cao with 12 points and five rebounds, Trey Falcon with eight points and five rebounds, Jacob Herrera with eight points and Dartagnan Fletcher with seven points and six rebounds. Alvin then dropped a 60-50 decision to Pasadena in its home opener on Monday. Cao pumped in 22 points and eight rebounds, while other game totals included Herrera with 12 points and Elijah Mckinzy with 11 points. The Jackets next play Columbia, Nov. 20 in West Columbia at 1 p.m.

Pioneers blank Houston Furr for first playoff victory – The Iowa Colony Pioneers turned their playoff debut into a shutout performance with a 37-0 victory over Houston Furr in the Class 4A Bi-District Football Playoffs, Nov. 9 at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. The victory advances the 11-0 Pioneers into the area round, where they will meet Lindale, Friday night at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan at 7 p.m. In the win over Furr, Jacody Miles scored Iowa Colony’s first touchdown on a five-yard run in the first quarter, while Haydon Caston motored 35 yards with an interception return to make it 14-0. Quarterback Carson White also scored from a yard out on a quarterback sneak and Cameron Renfro fired a 17-yard TD strike to Ian Hill to pave the way to a 30-0 Pioneer lead at halftime.

Lady Mavericks edged by Fulshear in volleyball quarterfinals – The Manvel Lady Mavericks gave No. 4 state ranked Fulshear everything they could handle in Tuesday’s Class 5A Region 3 Volleyball quarterfinal match in Pearland, before ending up on the short end of a 12-25, 26-24, 17-25, 25-23 and 8-15 five set decision at Shadow Creek High School. Closing their season at 24-20, the Lady Mavs were led by Nevaeh English’s 13 kills, 11 kills and three blocks by Ty Brinkley, Kenedy Massie with 34 assists and 13 digs for a double double and Bea Angeles with 18 digs. Maverick Football closes their season with home victory – The Manvel Mavericks closed their 2023 Football slate with a 42-7 victory over Rosenberg Terry in 10-5A Division I Football action, Nov. 2 at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. Manvel closes its season at 5-5 overall and 4-4 in district play. Quarterback Chase Cobbin scored the first of three touchdowns rushing on a 55-yard run in the opening period, while firing TD passes of 41 yards to Derius Clerkley and 11 yards to Joshua Irving.

State ranked Pioneers edge Needville in thriller to clinch district championship – Quarterback Carson White scored on an eight-yard touchdown run with 1:13 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift playoff bound Iowa Colony to a 49-45 victory over Needville in 12-4A Division I Football action, Nov. 3 at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. The victory assured the 10-0 Pioneers (6-0 in district) of an unbeaten regular season and sends them into a home game for the Class 4A D-1 Bi-District Football Playoffs, Thursday with Houston Furr at Freedom Field at 7 p.m. The Pioneers entered the final period trailing 45-35, before White’s 13-yard keeper cut the margin to 45-42 with nine minutes left. Linebacker Haydon Caston also came up with a key defensive stop on fourth down late in the fourth to set up the eventual winning drive for Iowa Colony.

Eovaldi gets World Series clinching pitching win for  – 2008 Alvin High School Graduate Nathan Eovaldi got the victory for the Texas Rangers in their 5-0 World Series Championship clinching win over Arizona, Wednesday night in Arizona. Not only did Eovaldi help the Rangers win their first world championship in the team’s 52-year history, he also became the first major league pitcher in history to win five postseason starts in a single season. The five PS wins also tied him with Randy Johnson, Stephen Strasburg and Francisco Rodriguez for the most overall by a pitcher in one postseason. Eovaldi went 5-0 for the postseason overall, also picking up the series clinching victories for the Rangers during both the Wild Card and Division rounds. An All-State pitcher for Alvin in 2008, Eovaldi also gained the mound victories in Games 2 and 6 of the American League Championship Series.

Lady Jackets’ Volleyball season ends in bi-district – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets’ season came to end in the Class 6A Bi-District Volleyball Playoffs to Clear Springs by 7-25, 15-25 and 11-25 scores, Monday at Santa Fe High School. The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured a 16-1 victory over Milby in the opener, while the Yellowjackets rolled to a 20-6 triumph over Bellaire in the nightcap. The victory advances both squads into the area round against Cy Ranch, Saturday at the Cy Fair Natatorium. Sharks’ Football blanks Elsik – The Shadow Creek Sharks moved their record 2-1 in 23-6A football action and 4-1 overall with a 24-0 triumph over Elsik, Oct. 6 at Crump Stadium in Alief. Jacorey Watson completed 14 of 22 passes for 198 yards with touchdown passes to Chris Stewart and Christian Seriale. Joshua Davis also provided a rushing touchdown and Aiden Bui booted a 38-yard field goal. Nigel Pringle and Anthony Williams also had interceptions in the contest. The Sharks next host Alvin, Friday at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony at 7 p.m.

Pioneers capture 48-7 victory over Brazosport in first ever homecoming game – The Iowa Colony Pioneers captured a 48-7 triumph over Brazosport in their first ever homecoming game, Oct. 6 at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. The win improved the Pioneers’ record to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the 12-4A Division I Football Standings. Quarterback Carson White completed 15 of 21 passes for 227 yards and five touchdowns. Antoine Martin Jr. caught a pair of scoring tosses from White, while Jacody Miles joined Landrew Ward and Jayren Warren. Andy Cruz also booted field goals of 34 and 37 yards through the uprights. The Pioneers next play at Navasota, Friday at 7 p.m.

 Iowa Colony girls capture 26-4A Cross Country crown – The Iowa Colony Cross Country girls compiled a meet-best 19 points to win the 26-4A Cross Country championship, Thursday in Bay City. Katherine Canchola led the way by winning the girls’ division at 13:20.07, while Payton Watson was second at 14:13.40 and Mariah Samarco was fifth at 14:24.90. Other top performances for the Lady Pioneers included Melanie LeBato in sixth place at 14:33.29, Reagan Carr in eighth place at 14:36.69 and Mikayla Martinez in 22nd place at 16:03.85. Iowa Colony captured second place team honors on the boys’ side with Benjamin Canchola placing fourth at 17:53.93, Paul Maples in seventh place at 18:19.92, Aden Saucedo in eighth place at 18:30.70, Isaiah Rodriguez in 10th place at 18:47.00 and Blake Johnson in 16th place at 19:13.68.

Lady Pioneers move closer to securing second place playoff seed – The playoff bound Iowa Colony Lady Pioneers moved a step closer to securing the runner-up seed in 26-4A after outlasting Columbia in five sets by 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 18-25 and 15-12 scores, Tuesday in Iowa Colony. The Lady Pioneers moved their record to 20-19 overall and 7-2 in district with the victory. Match totals included Taylor Bonner Williams with 20 kills and 30 digs for a double double, Janae Garner with 12 kills, Hannah Lane with eight kills, Aujanae Reed with 38 assists and Irelyn Parker with 35 digs. The Lady Pioneers next play at La Porte in a non-district match, Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Eovaldi picks up pitching win in Rangers’ wild card series sweep – Former Alvin High school product Nathan Eovaldi picked up the win on the mound in the Texas Rangers’ 7-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, Wednesday to help the Rangers sweep the best-of-three MLB wild card series. Eovaldi, who went 12-5 during the regular season, allowed only six hits and one earned run over 6 2/3 innings, while striking out eight. Eovaldi and the Rangers now move on to the best-of-seven division series with Baltimore Orioles, starting with game one in Camren Yards, Saturday.

Lady Yellowjackets sweep Taylor  – The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured a 25-6, 25-17 and 25-20 straight set sweep at Alief Taylor in 23-6A Volleyball action, Tuesday. Match totals for the Lady Jackets (12-21 overall, 4-3) included Wylie Singleton with nine kills and five aces, Corynn Williams with nine kills and three blocks, Brooklynn Morris with eight kills, six digs and three aces, Korrigan Wright with 26 assists, four kills and three aces, Payton Ashley with four kills, Kennedi Hansen with seven digs, Camryn Mercer with five digs and Emma Garcia with two aces. Yellowjacket Cross Country competes at AISD Freedom Run – The Alvin High School Cross Country teams competed at the hosting AISD Freedom Run last weekend in Iowa Colony with both the varsity boys and girls’ teams turning in fourth place finishes. Jesus Delapaz delivered the highest performance for the area (AISD) boys with a third place, while Luke Arias finished in 20th place and Christopher Saucedo was 24th. Top performances for Alvin on the girls’ side included Elisha Lara in 13th place, Sunny McClish in 18th place and Rudi Armas in 23rd place.

Mavericks’ Football tops Kempner – The Manvel Mavericks captured a 40-7 victory over Kempner in 10-5A Division I Football action, Sept. 29 at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. Manvel evened its overall record at 3-3 and also improved its district mark to 2-2 with the victory. Quarterback Romin Seymour fired a 19-yard TD pass to Kade Caton on the opening drive of the contest, while Kenneth Malone followed with a two-yard run into the end zone to make it 13-0. Malone scored three touchdowns in the contest. Dillon Boone also chipped in a four-run scoring run. The Mavs have a bye in their schedule this week and next play Foster, Oct. 14 at Traylor Stadium in Rosenberg with a 2 p.m. kickoff.

Lady Mavericks roll past Texas City – The Manvel Lady Mavericks rolled to a 25-8, 25-8 and 25-4 home sweep over Texas City in 18-5A Volleyball action on Tuesday. The Lady Mavs moved their record to 18-17 overall and 6-1 in district with the victory. Sharks’ Football dominates Hastings – The Shadow Creek Sharks rebounded from their first district loss with a 63-0 triumph over Alief Hastings in 23-6A Football action, Sept. 29 at Crump Stadium in Alief. The Sharks moved their record to 4-1 overall with the victory. Cobey Sellers completed 7 of 9 passes for 220 yards and four touchdowns with Chris Stewart and Christian Seriale each collecting a pair of TD catches. Alex Kirkland also exploded for a 94-yard TD kickoff return to lead the SC special teams and Caleb Harris returned an interception three yards for a defensive score as well. Shadow Creek next plays Elsik, Thursday at Crump Stadium in Alief at 6 p.m.

Sharks’ CC competes at AISD Freedom Run – The Shadow Creek Sharks’ Cross Country teams competed at the hosting AISD Freedom Run last weekend in Iowa Colony. Skylar Bocase captured runner-up honors for SC in the girls’ division, while Jarvis Kaiser placed eighth in the boys’ division. Other top performances included Dorian Howard 12th place in the boys’ division and Tiffany Mugubi 14th place in the girls’ division.

Iowa Colony Pioneer Report

Pioneers rally for 38-31 triumph over Stafford – The Iowa Colony Pioneers pulled off a dramatic second half rally to prevail over hosting Stafford by a 38-31 count in their 12-4A Division I Football opener on Sept. 29. The Pioneers also moved their record to 5-0 for the season and are currently ranked seventh in the state in Class 4A by the Associated Press. Iowa Colony faced deficits of 21-7 at halftime and 31-21 after three periods. After Andy Cruz booted a 36-yard field goal to pull the Pioneers within 31-24 with 5:38 remaining, Aaron Tenner (192 yards on 16 carries) scored the tying touchdown on a 42-yard run and quarterback Carson White (108 yards on three carries) dashed 40 yards for the winning TD with 55 seconds left. Jeremy Garner then sealed the victory IC with an interception with 14 seconds left to play. Jayden Wilcox also blocked a first quarter Stafford punt with Haydon Caston racing nine yards for the game’s first TD. The Pioneers next host Brazosport for homecoming, Friday at AISD Freedom Field in Iowa Colony at 7 p.m.

Lady Pioneers drop four setter at Sweeny – The Iowa Colony Volleyball girls dropped a 25-17, 18-25, 22-25 and 19-25 four-set decision at Sweeny in 26-4A action on Tuesday. Match totals for the Lady Pioneers (17-18 overall, 5-2) included Taylor Bonner Williams with 16 kills and 13 digs for a double double, Je`Dyn Parker with 18 digs, Hannah Lane with 15 digs, Breia Dixon with 14 assists, Allison Salas with six kills and Aaliyah Rogers with two blocks.
